AMG Review of What Time Is It? It's Gucci Time

Like all the other Gucci Crew records, What Time Is It? has a couple great tracks surrounded by a whole bunch of puttering around. None of it has aged all too well, but every now and then there's a reminder of the effect this group had on 69 Boyz, Tag Team, 95 South, Freak Nasty, and the like. "Truz 'n' Vogues" and "Shirley" have all the characteristics of the best bass music -- endearingly sloppy singalong choruses, goofy lyrics, and productions that are tailor-made for boomin' vehicles. As fun as most of these songs are, the funniest of them all is the closing "It's So Hard (To Say Goodbye)," a noble, heartfelt attempt of proving to everyone that they weren't one-dimensional.
