The self-proclaimed rudest, lewdest, and loudest band in showbiz had already been shocking and insulting the civilized world for some eight years when this, the Macc Lads' "official" debut album, was recorded -- and anybody who thought that the niceties of either a studio or a record label might quench the Ladds' foul tongues had another thing coming. From the moment the self-affirming "The Lads from Macc" kicks things off, 19 songs' worth of sickness, depravity, and utterly gut-wrenching humor will leave faint-hearted listeners wondering what the hell they've let themselves in for. "We're the Macc Lads and we ain't fucking poofs" is an unequivocal statement of intent by anybody's standards, but the Ladds have only just gotten started. Part Sham 69, part Splodgenessabounds, but wholly maddening, mindless, and miraculous, Beer Sex Chips 'n' Gravy is the kind of album you have to listen to loudly, if only so the neighbors can't hear you singing along.
