Tropicália Essentials capitalizes on the rising popularity and influence of Tropicália, a politically charged Brazilian musical movement from the late '60s and early '70s that combined indigenous styles with rock, blues, jazz, folk, and psychedelic elements. Hip-O's collection of Tropicália classics includes songs from some of the movement's finest songwriters, including Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil.
