MOG Editorial Review
When they first hit the scene in the early '90s, Jays of Clay pulled of the seemingly impossible, becoming a crossover success that didn't get singled out for their spirituality. While spiritual themes dominate their self-titled debut, the band managed to create an alt-rock sound in step with their contemporaries. Meanwhile, they sing about Christianity in a way that was both direct and open to more lofty interpretation. While a songs like "Flood" have deeply religious themes, you'll be too busy singing along to this album's earworm choruses to think too much about it.
