Night Nurse

Few reggae musicians are more vocally affecting than Gregory Isaacs, who can transform even the happiest track into a haunting affair. Night Nurse has to be considered Isaac's finest work, not just for the fantastic vocals, which -- depending on your mood -- can send you into a dreamy, love-filled haze, or a melancholy ball of self-pity. One of the overlooked aspects of the album are the production flourishes, which distinguish it from the average reggae or lovers rock album. Not content with his vocals over a simple upstroke riddim, Isaacs is constantly adding mini-melodies in between vocals and extra touches throughout, which keeps the album fresh and interesting. However, the most important thing about Night Nurse is that you're bound to feel something while listening to it, which is what every album should aspire to do.
