Modern day electronic dance music is all about setting a mood, rather than getting its point across with throbbing basslines and happy-go-lucky lyrics; such was the case with the genre back in the '70s. For proof of this dance music evolution, all you have to do is check out Anjunabeats, Vol. 5, the 2007 double-disc addition to the ongoing Above & Beyond series. Variation is not really the name of the game here, as to keep a dance party moving steady in the early 21st century you need to keep the beats and blips rocksteady, and Anjunabeats, Vol. 5 doesn't disappoint. This is especially evident by such similarly paced selections as Chunk & Twist's "Battery Life," Jaytech's "Spacelift," and Maor Levi's "Shapes." Nothing exactly groundbreaking here in the realm of dance music, but if the previous entries in the Anjunabeats series managed to float your boat, then this one should do the same.
