A few years after Pulp's breakup, Jarvis Cocker resurfaced a little older and a little wiser for his eponymous solo debut. Leaving Pulp's new wave-leaning sound behind, Cocker kept his former band's biting sense of humor in tact, continuing his penchant for social critique and satire while making it fit in a singer-songwriter mold. Whether it's aggressive tracks like "Fat Children" or an unconventionally moving ballad like "I Will Kill Again," Cocker is able to tackle yet another genre on his own terms. It's rare that an alt-rocker ages gracefully, but Jarvis manages to do so while reminding us why we loved him in the first place.
