As the title suggests, Mike Auldridge recorded Eight String Swing with a specially-made, eight-string dobro, which helped him ease his music out of traditional bluegrass and into country, jazz, western swing, and folk. Auldridge is joined by several of his Seldom Scene cohorts and fiddler Jimmy Arnold on the album, and the sympathetic support adds depth to both the originals and the eclectic covers (Duke Ellington's "Caravan," Willie Nelson's "Crazy," Benny Goodman's "Stompin' at the Savoy").
