WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

BET Awards?

Posted over 2 years ago
Maybe I've officially become 'crotchety' at the old age of 33, but what was that? I don't mess with award shows, but as I was walking to the bar to do some drinking on Tuesday (FO, it had been a rough week already), I ran into a buddy who told me the awards were on that night. I heard there were some good performances, so I recorded it on the trusty DVR. Even with my gnat-like attention span, I was frustrated as I fast forwarded at 3X. Beyonce's robot prop was kinda cool, but Ne-Yo? Like Huey from the Boondocks told Justin Timberlake in a comic strip: "Michael Jackson is not a genre of music." Ciara's act looked like a cut-and-paste from a JANET Jackson tour from 20 years ago. That's enough hating for now. Well, one more thing. Does that MoNique chick know or care that she's got a higher risk for all kinds of medical problems because she's overweight? You can't fit into a seat on the plane and you're proud of it? RUFKM? Eddie Levert's tribute to his son Gerald was amazing. And Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, and MOnica joining in was magical. The shots of the celebs showed all of them attached to the performance on a deeper level - I half expected to see 50 and Game holding hands and crying. OK maybe not. Don CHeadle's acceptance of the humanitarian award was really humbling. And the reason why is the humility he accepted it with. It really made me feel like a small, petty person. So of course, it was my favorite moment. Funny how that works.... And the Badu's tribute to Diana Ross was pretty cool. Is Badu really going to deliver on those 3 albums this year? Six months left....
