WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Flogging Molly

Posted over 2 years ago
Tonight kicks off concert season for me, and thought I would make a quick post about it. I'm off to see Flogging Molly. They're playing in Cincinnati tonight at a place called Bogarts. Unfortunately, it's two hours away. I've stocked the car with Coke (the liquid kind) and Skittles for the drive back. I've never seen FM or been to Bogarts before; so, it's two new experiences for me. I love a lot of Flogging Molly's music and have seen some video of live performances. I'm betting the place is going to be utter chaos, and I'll be lovin' every minute of it! :) The only downside is that I don't drink when I travel for shows like this. I think a good pint or a glass of rye would go great with this band.If you are unfamiliar with their music, you can find several of their songs "here.":http://poppy.multiply.com/music/item/1 Enjoy and have a good night.

  5. Zeroskilz says Thanks everyone. Despite the snow storm on the way back and my own stupidity, I'm home safe. The show was great, but I didn't eat or drink anything all day until about 2 hours before the show. Jumping and dancing around about dehydrated me to the point of being sick. I had to hit the bar for water about 5 songs before the end of the show. It sucks getting old. :) The first opening band wasn't all that great. They specialized in being drunk and breaking guitar strings. 3 strings in a half hour set. The next band was pretty good. The name of the band was Street Dogs, and they were fronted by the former lead singer for the Dropkick Murphys. Great songs and full of energy. My only complaint would be that he kept name-dropping the city (like I cared) and having them turn on the houselights so he could see us dance. Kind of odd really. Flogging Molly finally came on and anlternately whipped the crowd into a frenzy and then getting us to sing along with our arms around each other shoulders; well, at least for the people who knew other people there. I didn't feel like getting my ass kicked. :) They played for over an hour. During the intermission prior to encore, the crowd broke into a rousting rendition of Ole until the band returned. It was a beautiful thing. Two more things real quick. If you ever have a chance to see a band play at Bogarts in Cincinnati, do it. The place is phenomenal. There must have been 300-400 people in that place, and they encourage moshing; the sign on the door warns you to participate at your own risk. :) Finally, I had one of my odder experiences at the show. I look up just in time to see someone's cell phone start falling out of the high (the ceilings must be around 25 foot high) orbit someone had launched it into. It happened to be heading right for me. I caught and handed it to the guy next to me. He asked if it was mine and I said no; so, he put it in his back pocket and walked away. It was just kind of odd.

  6. chulsmith says the street dogs are great. they're on tour for their third album. the singer was in the dropkick murphys for their first album but then quit because of the tour schedule. i think their third album is their best (street dogs). sounds like you had a great time!

  7. Anna says That's great, Mikey! I listened to them, great stuff, they must be a riot live! And yeah, alcohol would go nicely with them :) So glad you had a marvelous time :) That odd incident of yours reminds me of one about 3 weeks ago. I'm at a bar, a guy walks up to me and asks if I have a light. I reply "yes" and give it to him. He takes it, and walks out of the bar. It felt so odd, that I couldn't even come up with a reply more eloquent than "eh?!?!?" :)

  8. Zeroskilz says It was a literal riot at times. Even the sturdiest of places shake when you have that many people jumping up and down at once. You were looking for a follow-up cheesy line Anna?

  9. Anna says No, I was looking for a way to say: were the fuck are you going with my lighter, insane man? haha :)

  10. Zeroskilz says Thanks for the lighter. I just figured you might recognize me....
