Time for me to light my fire....

Posted about 3 years ago

Today I tore down an entire fence line of jasmine and moon flowers that had taken over the backyard...

As well as two tonne of plant debris I also took down about 8 metres of trellis that threatened to take itself down...

I had my glasses on my head whilst I was doing it (forgot they were there) and after falling in the pond twice and falling over with said trellis on top of me once, yes I was looking a treat... I realised my glasses (brown Gucci's mind you) had indeed left the top of my scone and were... gone... suffice to say they will most likely never be found...

The trellis has been broken up and stacked in my cast iron chiminea; with enough left to fuel it for several hours... tonight I will have a fire...

You see the trellis sparked a recollection of a wonderful night a few months back in front of that very chiminea (filled with another section of trellis that had been broken up) with a bottle of Don Julio and someone I care for deeply.

We sat late into the night in front of a roaring fire, the Southern Cross above us, taking turns at doing shots and talking about everything and anything... we ended up horribly drunk and taking some very bad photos - but it was a night that will be in my memory forever and as I sit here and write about it, I am smiling...

So tonight the chiminea will be filled with trellis, the Southern Cross will be above me, the fire will roar but it will be a different night... there will be no Don Julio and my partner in crime is far away right at the moment ...

I am sure I will smile as I remember and then just as sure I will shed a quiet tear...

Maybe I do need some Don Julio?

Just watched this video of The Doors - Light my fire, some great archive photos, how could I not include it..

Great story. Hope you have a backup pair. Of glasses, not legs....

Wonderful imagery. It's turned cold here, first blowing snow today, so the outside work is done for now. Hope the glasses turn up, but if you wind up in need, I always pass this site on:

One of my favorite songs from The Doors... it takes me back to a time as well of which I won't be sharing. ;-)
