.
I've been out of the loop for the last week... I should have been posting on my fantastic Secret Santa gift from Jenny ( www.mog.com/jenny ) (sorry about that!)... This post should put that right...
For those that don't know her, Jenny is a music writer based in Philly. ...and not only does she have excellent taste, but she did her homework and checked out the kind of stuff that I listen to... from my love of New Zealand legends, The Clean, she graced me with the latest David Kilgour cd... Singer/songwriter/guitarist Kilgour is aces in my book, but somehow his latest escaped my view...She's championed his latest cd "The Far Now" and, thanks to her, I'm jumping on the bandwagon... It's a wonderful album that's fairly low-key... the first song I'm posting, "Sun of God," which opens the cd, is a haunting acoustic piece that made me hit the "replay" button a bunch of times... The whole album sounds this good... all the way to the closer "Out of the Moment," which sounds like the long-lost soundtrack to that non-existent underwater-western Coen Brothers movie...
I also scored the latest from Eric Matthews (of orchestral pop "Cardinal" fame)!... (I'll also post a taste in the comments...) ...and a promising band I knew nothing about called My Teenage Stride (indie pop... works for me!) ... they've got a familiar, but still fresh-sounding thing going on... I dig the tunes "To Live and Die in The Airport Lounge" and the title track "Ears Like Golden Bats"... AND I got a fab mix cd of many goodies including Kelly Stolz, The Cynics, Alcest, Major Stars, Meneguar, Mia Doi Todd, Tiger Tiger, Paul Metzger and more!...
THANKS JENNY!!
Excuse me now, while I stick my head back in the headphones for a while...

Hey, thanks for keeping the what that goes around coming around. Thanks especially for the Kilgour, as I too am gaga for The Clean and I too hadn't heard this one.

Jenny does have a most excellent ear. The Kilgour CD is awesome (I love _A Feather in the Machine_ as well). Ironically, I just put a few tracks from that, as well one from My Teenage Stride on a mixtape for a mogger yesterday! Wonderful art, John. Happy New Year!

Hey, John, sorry, just catching up on MOG posts. I'm so glad you liked your stuff. I enjoyed picking it for you. Kilgour's Feather in the Engine is pretty astounding, too. If you haven't already heard it, you might want to put it on your list.
