Guided By Voices Monday

Posted over 3 years ago

I feel like Guided By Voices this fine Monday...

...and I get the feeling I might feel like this every Monday into the distant future...

...here's a couple "must listens"... First up, from "Earthquake Glue," a doozy called "The Best of Jill Hives"... (Robert Pollard, lead singer/songwriter/all-round guru, apparently got the title to this song while snoozing while watching TV... what might have been "Days of our Lives" turned into the "Best of Jill Hives"... or so I've heard)

...and from Mr. Pollard's solo effort "From A Compound Eye" another gem of a tune, "U.S. Mustard Company"... about halfway through this song I always get the goosebumps...

get the mp3 code as you would normally to be put in comments (example: ~NF2tCIXdEjI.mp3~ ) then go and get an embed code from a post with a red button UpLoaded song (link to is found at the bottom of any such post) I've kept a code set aside in a file on my desktop for quicker access.

When you find a post you want to leave a musical comment on click on the HTML link on the Comment board, this will give you a new blank field where you can put your HTML stuff (did I lose you yet?) cut and paste the dummy "Red Dot" code into the HTML field, now if you scan through the code you'll see 3 different spots that end with .mp3" the jumbled series right up to that needs to be removed as that is the old song, and replaced with the new mp3 code series (example: NF2tCIXdEjI ) leaving off the new codes 2 ~'s and mp3 signifier.

Then hit update on the HTML field and check the red dot through preview to see if it works and your set!

There's also a way to get the Old player in there but I'll leave that for later. (It's basically the same way you just need to get your hands on the old code and do some a similar cut and paste job to it, if you need it let me know.

I got confused right after this part:  "Dachmo says:"

...no... this looks like a great step-by-step process... I'll give it a go, but reserve the right to be very confused...

    Thanks again, D!

did you type the code in or cut and paste? your better off cutting and pasting, and you only want to remove the combination of Letters & numbers associated to the old song

I cut and pasted... I'm wondering if I might have pasted over one character and that screwed up the post... I've gotta hit work, but when I get back, I'll try it from the top and be a bit more careful... I think I got the basics...

    thanks again, dachmo!

The first track is a just a pure pop gem... The other cuts are also very very palatable. Thanks for sharing, Zen.

PS: Dach has said better than I ever can. If you're interested in embedding the old player, there's a thread in the forums with all the embed codes and explanation: click here. (Note: the forums are only accessible if you're logged in)
