WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Thin Thread of a Top Ten List

Posted about 1 year ago
Early this year I posted my "Top Eleven" list of what I considered the best of 2007. A couple of months later I ran into two CDs that escaped my attention... both would have found themselves firmly lodged among the best five albums of the year had I heard them a bit earlier... such is the flimsy nature of the "Best of" list...The first of the magical two (I'll post about the other one within the week), was presented to me by my friend in Portland. That band, also residents of our rainy neighbors to the North, has created a brilliant piece of work... The band: MENOMENA. The album: Friend And Foe.I've listened to this album a lot and it keeps getting better and better. It's getting so I actually hear the music in my head when I'm not actually listening to it...I'm dropping three cuts on you... Do yourself a favor and drown in this strange and wonderful sonic bliss...

  3. ZenPop says ...oops... should be "WET and rusting"... ...also... at least I recognized something great about this band before I heard their music... I listed the album cover among the best of the year... The content lives up to the cover...

  4. ardyjormkiv says i'm so glad you took the time to listen. it was overlooked by many, but anyone who heard it was sure to put it on the 'list'. there are a lot of problems with top ten lists because i doubt any one of us has listened to every album (even just the ones worth listening to) in a year. that's basically impossible. but friend and foe should last way, way beyond the 2007. i LOVE this album. and i really like the art. well done. (i'm assuming its yours, anyway. if not, just take the credit! i'll give it to you!)

  5. Augusts1 says Love Menomena. This album was #2 on my top 20 list & you can see my post "*here*":http://mog.com/Augusts1/list/posts/3. Saw them live a year ago March in San Francisco too & they were incredible live. I was amazed at how well they were able to recreate their sound in concert. It really blew my mind. So glad I saw them!
