Poster Mania... (yet more...)

Posted about 4 years ago
..When I first asked to do the poster for this show, it was because of the band Rogue Wave... I'd been a big fan of the guys from across the Bay (Oakland) for a while... Then I started listening to Nada Surf (hadn't heard them since I got their debut album)... The Weight Is A Gift is a uniformly excellent album that showcases their growth and maturity... While not their best song on the album (probably "Your Legs Grow"), I thought I'd post "In The Mirror," because it's my favorite... It was a great show that night... Rogue Wave was getting better and better as a live band and put out a wonderful set... and Nada Surf were fantastic... After the show, as my posters were being handed out, I was standing next to a member of Rogue Wave (no. Not Zach) as he looked at the poster... He (verbally) ripped it to shreds... He had no idea that I created the poster... I just smiled... I was pretty happy with the poster and a lot of people liked it... so what are you gonna do?... It's art, not science. No right answers...

  3. Marigold says Thanks for sharing. That must have been an awkward situation. Especially since you like the bands art so much yet they do not return the favor. I suppose being an artist of any sort you need to be somewhat thick skinned. As for me, I think it is really cool. I love that you are posting these here and sharing them with us. The insight to the poster as well as the music is a match in heaven. Keep it up! you can't please every bastard in the house!

  4. Anna says Well, you know what they say John. Opinions are like a certain body part; everybody has one. I just wish that they'd keep it to themselves sometimes or reveal it in a more classy way. I'm talking about opinions _and_ said body part. ahahhaha :P

  5. ZenPop says Thanks for the comments... Summer: You're absolutely right... of course, I'd like everyone to like everything I do, but if I'm happy with it, I figure that's alright... Marigold: Yeah... I'm starting to shrug off stuff like that and even find the humor in it... I mean, how can I expect everyone to like my stuff, when I don't like everything?... By the way... Congrats on MOGer of the Week!! Anna: ha ha...That would be nice... but then I think back on some of the crap I've spewed in the past... karma's a bitch...

  6. Marigold says Zen. What do you think the guy would have done if you had said it was your artwork? Thanks for the well wishes on the MOTW. Take care!
