Under the Influence

Posted about 1 year ago
..I'm always fascinated by where songs come from... some are more obvious than others.....I love Elastica... and I love their hit song "Connection"... I also love the band Wire... so does Elastica... so much so that they lifted the riff from "Three Girl Rhumba"... We all have influences... Here's Elastica.....

  1. ZenPop says ...and here from Wire's amazing debut album, "Pink Flag," is "THREE GIRL RHUMBA"... (any others you can think of?... feel free to post...) . .

  3. Girlcrawl says Two fantastic songs!

  4. Dale says Try out these Elastica and Wire songs (which I would upload if it were working) Wire - Lowdown (also from Pink Flag, hmmm) Elastica - Human To be fair, they did give the members of Wire a writing credit for that one. Proof positive that Elastica is the gateway music to Wire. That's a good thing.

  5. ZenPop says I Think WIRE's "On Returning" has all of Pink Flag... plus a bunch of other stuff... Dale... I'll definitely try that one... (and I completely agree... Elastica loves Wire...) Here's another pair of great bands... again with a nod to greatness... The Beatles: "Taxman" . . . The Jam: "Start" (Paul Weller never tried hide this source of this riffage) .

  6. dachmo says Zen you're freaking me out, at first you brought up Wire and the Pink Flag album which I had, prior to your mentioning them, spent a good 2 hrs searching through my boxes for only to conclude that it was one that had been stolen from me But now you throw up Both the Jam and the Beatles two bands of which I have almost listened exclusively too during the past 3 or 4 days. can you hear me through my computer! Hello, is this thing on??? alright what am I listening to today? and don't say Joe Jackson because I'll have to call the cops on you!!

  7. ZenPop says Ha ha!.... If it's any consolation to you, Dach... Great avatar! I JUST bought "It's A Wonderful Life" on DVD... (great watching it every time...) (and, yes. I love Joe Jackson... Thanks for the suggestion... I'll break out the "Big World" or "Blaze of Glory" cd...)

  8. dachmo says "I want a BIG one, and not for one night but for a thousand and one nights..." I've seen this movie countless times, maybe the only movie I could quote from, scene by scene from start to finish.

  9. contrabandwidth says Hey guys, save it for Wormhole! Just kidding, but those are great elements you can use for the game. I noticed that Elastica connection before, I'm glad you posted on it. I did a similar post on Talking Heads "Cross eyed and Painless" and Supergrass' "Kiss of Life".

  11. contrabandwidth says Why it's Wormole! the smash game sensation that is taking Mog by storm! Well, not really, but I would like it to. It's fun and requires a similar thought process...

  12. Sam The Artist says for real! this is good wormhole material!

  13. ZenPop says Dach, I'm right there with you on that movie... that's the scene where the angels stop George in mid-sentence... If you love Capra (and everyone should), you'll LOVE Jimmy Stewart in "Shop Around The Corner"... They made a lousy remake of it called "You've Got Mail" (w/ Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan)... but the original is fantastic.... Contra... That sounds awesome... I gotta get some "Wormhole" game action... Anything to do with Guided By Voices? (They have an amazing song called "Wormhole"... love that tune...)

  14. Mike the Knife says I just expect that the influenced artists bring something of their own to the party - and Elastica and The Jam certainly did. (Got an awesome mash of "Connection" and The Gossip's "Standing in the Way of Control." Really must post at some point.)
