THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

Another Hitchcock Thriller!

Posted about 1 year ago
..The former Soft Boys hero, has put out truck loads of quality music... it's always engaging... lyrically and musically. ..Robyn Hitchcock is a one-man Beatles. Robyn Hitchcock is a very funny man.Robyn Hitchcock is the Rene Magritte (or perhaps Picasso) of pop music.Robyn Hitchcock deserves to be heard...Here's my part to help with #4...I'm not a big fan of recorded live music, but this version of "Glass Hotel" from EYE glistens.... the guitar... the vocals... perfect...

  2. AA Coppertop says Nice. Have you seen Jonathan Demme's concert film "Storefront Hitchcock"? It shows the Mad Hatter off in all his glory.

  3. ZenPop says Thanks DoubleA... Yeah... great flick!... That's where I got the "Glass Hotel" cut from... I even like it better than the "Eye" studio version....

  4. AA Coppertop says Ah, yes. Amazing what a rich sound he gets out of solo guitar and voice.

  10. contrabandwidth says Robyn always has such interesting lyrical pairings, and I would admit some confusion on my part as to an album named ??Queen Elvis?? when there was a song on ??Eye?? called "Queen Elvis" if I am correct. I fellow Costello lover had recommended him to me at a time when I lived down the street from a record store that had cassette tapes still in their wrappers for about a buck. I took a chance, being as I still had a tape deck in my car. Some of the best music for a buck I ever bought. I really need to pick this stuff up on CD. I also found "Store Front Hitchcock" on DVD for about $2! Just about invisible here in the states, grossly underrated. Nice post!

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says I am not very familiar with RH's music... I was missing out, but will surely try to right that wrong. Thanks *John* !!! I am adoring the live track - you're right, the guitar throws brilliance through my crap computer speakers & I am instantly transported to a hotel of glass :) It's beautiful here !!!

  12. Sturgell says that host is such a nob...
    Permalink posted 11/28/2007
  13. Sturgell says interesting things RH told me about himself: he doesn't sit around with bugs crawling all over him he doesn't eat spiders he DOES akin people who seek out his music to people who "crawl on their bellies to film some rare old snake." his daughter introduced him to Ministry and later he made an album with their drummer. more later, if I can find my write up.. We just talked on the phone, but you can tell even in said medium that he's a really nice guy.

  17. ZenPop says Thanks for the comment Mogger Of The Week, Pat (aka Walking The Cow)... Lizzie! Definitely worth picking up! (and I hope you had a great T-Day!) Sturg... Ha ha... I was going to post that same video!... You're absolutely right... that host is a nob... "Perspect" instead of "Perspex" and "Robert" instead of "Robyn"... dork. ...wow... you got to talk to him, too!... he's cool... I ran into him on the way into a San Rafael club he was playing... I said "Hi Robyn! Can you play "Beautiful Girl" tonight?" He said "Sure."... and he did... very cool... fistula... I haven't picked up the newest one either... yet... it's on my "to do" list...

  19. ZenPop says Thanks so much, Kristiana! Vibrating and Balloon Man! I have a special place in my heart for Balloon Man... (and the rest of "Globe Of Frogs") it was the Hitchcock song that led me into his crazy, brilliant universe! Cheers!

  20. kristiana says ...and that your art is very very nice.

  21. kristiana says Whoops, well, my last comment seems to have been gobbled up. What I was going to say was - I was going to word it the exact same way, I mean, Globe of Frogs having a special place in my heart. But I didn't wanna get all gushy on your page. Now I'll gush away. :) And that if you google my name, the ONLY thing you find is a cover a former band contributed to a Hitchcock covers compilation. Hahaha. How funny, cute AND lame. That's me! Nice to meet ya.
