WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

A Shot of Ouzo

Posted over 2 years ago
..Before Cat Stevens jumped off the Peace Train (and then apparently got back on again) he was making pretty cool music... .What a lot of people didn't know is that he (like yours truly) is the product of a Greek father... Cat (original name: Steven Demetre Georgiou) or Yusuf made a lot of great music before he went all fatwa on Salman Rushdie's ass... .The song RUBY LOVE sort of slipped between the cracks... (not of Rushdie's ass), but I think it's definitely worth a listen... It doesn't hurt that he sings in Greek and it's got a cool Bouzouki line going through it... Pull up a chair, grab a plate of olives and feta, pour yourself a glass of Retsina and check it out.....

  1. Anna says I had no idea. I'd be too embarrassed to admit it if I wasn't so busy wrapping myself in the flag. That is one cool Bouzouki line :) Retsina brings bad hangovers to mind (and stomach), but I was always a sucker for ouzo and tsipouro....cheers! John, have you ever been to Greece?

  2. Anna says While we're at it, if I may, two more artists... Greg Dulli is like you, Greek father, Irish mother: And Alex Kapranos is half Greek, half British: (I'll be quiet now)

  4. annieander says Sweet song. I traveled in Greece, alone, and loved the country. Didn't know about his "roots" though. I feel enlightened.
