Where is the line between "an interest in 'foreign' musics" and exoticism drawn? What exactly is foreign?

  1. etcvisitor says ummmm, dude, why do you have to ask the hard questions? i think that there is some form of innate sexuality or aesthetic appeal implied when the word exoticism is used. maybe not sexuality but it is a definite draw to the differences between your culture and that of another. foreign would just be a vague implication that the origin of the work is not the origin of the specific audience that is listening to the music at the time. exotic music could be exotic to its nation of origin... maybe an example could be spanish gypsy music in spain. it wouldnt be foreign to a spanish audience but it would potentially be exotic. i know i have an idea in here, but i dont know if im expressing it correctly.
