I was pretty sure I liked Ace Rock, but uhm...

Ok, so speaking as a music nerd with a base background in some punk and ska (though I've grown out of it) , there's a handful of genre's that havent gotten the attention from me that they probably deserve. The most noteable of which is hip-hop. I like a track here and a track there, but more or less, I'm let down. That is until I found Aesop Rock.I could listen to his Labor Days album for hours on end. Its just, for me, what good hip hop is. Predominately positive lyrics, good beats, and someone with some skill behind the mic. However, I'm starting to think, after many spins of Fast Cars, Danger Fires and Knives, The Daylight EP, and a handful of tracks from other releases, that maybe Labor Days is it... everything else I've heard seems to embody everything that I find boring about hip hop. So, If anyone has any suggestions, a different album to pick up, or different artist (and so help me if someone suggests atmosphere *sigh*), I could use some guidance.

  1. david hyman says the roots is a great entre point, mostly, because for the most part, they're playing honest to god: instruments! - and they rock. jay-z unplugged with the roots as his back up band is an awesome entry point.
