WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Tentative, Paper Thin, and Waiting.... (or when did Hot Water Music quit sucking?)

Its wierd how taste in music changes. I've already dedicated a myspace post to this topic and this particular band/instance, so I'm not gonna go on forever about it. However, I do find that sometimes certain music really has to grow on me, or rather I have to grow into certain music. I distinctively remember being 16 and not understanding the fuss over Radiohead. It doesnt end there, many of my now favorite bands (Mars Volta, Mogwai, Slint, etc) didnt rub me right the first few listens, or in some cases, for YEARS. In fact, Hot Water Music, the inspiration behind this post, was easily one of my least favorite bands throughout all of highschool. Even after enjoying them about 5 years back, I couldnt manage to download a single track I could really get into. Yet, now I find myself scouring the internet for each and everytrack they've ever released.. It's like I'm rabid. So you guys tell me... who couldnt you get into before, or hated before that you cant get enough of now?

  1. Leonasha says definitely that has happened to me. I found Belle and Sebastian deathly boring until I had a conversation with a friend about why she liked them ... also, Guided by Voices are a bit like Radiohead, in that it takes a few listens before you realize how amazing the songs are - they don't grab for your attention right away. on the other hand, I have also been known to develop fascinations with bands that everyone else hates ...
