MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

(76)

First and foremost all props and respect to TroyPowers and Cody B for setting this off...I figured I should also contribute. But I'm gonna freak it a bit. The posted audio file below is a medley of 6 samples I cut together quick fast. This time around instead of posting the song that sampled it...i've posted snippets of the actual samples. Now the name of my game is this:

2 Points for Artist(s) who sampled the song 2 points for the Song(s) that used the sample 2 Points for Original Artist 2 Points for Original Song Title 2 Bonus Points if you correctly get all 4 of the above.

Resulting in a grand total of 60 possible points...

This is the first run so i dunno if i made it too hard or too easy, consider this a feeling out stage.

PS: Troy/Cody...We need to work out some prizes for these games fellas! let's make this interesting!

OK #1 sounds like some early Aretha when she was with Columbia...
  1. shit I know this! gtr riff sounds a bit like 'spanish harlem' ... but no... oh that chorus - I got this 45! shit! let's get funky (well it sure ain't hound dog taylor). damn I just can't place it. hang on! is it dyke and the blazers?
  2. more mellow now... marvin? no, curtis? don't think so... pretty sure it's a dude with a high voice. eddie kendricks maybe.
  3. gotta be kraftwerk. certainly kraut, unless it's some NYC 80s electro.
  4. this is cool. great break. I want this!
  5. opening has a fela kuti afrobeat feel, but then goes like chic. is it Chic? yeah I'm going for Chic.

That "but it's too late" from the first bit is haunting me... It's somewhere in my Hip Hop Collection... can somebody please tell me what it is?

Nr. 4 is of course Kraftwerk: The Man Machine (or Mensch-Maschine on the German LP)

Off the hook,Wyze!

Off the top I knew: Number 1 is aretha franklin. number 2- funky by the chambers brothers used by Tribe Call Quest in I left my wallet in El Segundo. Number 4,Kraftwerk,ManMachine sampled by the Fearless 4 on the track Rockin' It (one of my first 12"). The rest would require further research and speculation.

Excellent sampler of samples WyzeWon, can't wait to see what the rest of the answers are.

BTW-Did anybody get the MP3 version of the Ultimate Breaks and Beats series I've been hearing about?

Actually I was just in LA last week (for Coachella!! ..more on that soon.!) and I saw that UBB boxset at Fatbeats it was pretty cheap too. I'm pretty sure you can get it off their website...

wearwoolf 2 For Getting Aretha 2 For Eddie Kendricks 2 for Chic 2 for Kraftwerk total = 8

mickimicki 2 for kraftwerk and 2 for "man machine" 2 for mos def and 2 for "ms fat booty" (bonus 1 point for posting the track) total = 9

I'll let you guys mull over the rest for a bit...and hopefully Troy can get in the mix to add his input...i'm sure he can get some or the leftover points.

Okay, the 3rd track("Intimate Friends" by Eddie Kendricks) was sampled by Rhymefest (among others) for a track called "Sister". Alisha Keys also used it for "Unbreakable". The 4th track ("Rockin' It" - Fearless 4) was used by Jay-Z for "Sunshine". Damnit, the 5th one is right on the tip of my tounge! I'll have to give it another listen. The 6th one ("Chic Cheer" - Chic) was used by Faith for...I just remember the song went "I never knew I'd have a...love like this before...", or something to that effect.

What's left?

There we go, Troy filled in some missing spots...so he gets... 2 for eddie kendricks 2 for "intimate friends" 2 for rhymefest and 2 for "sister" (I'll give bonus 2 for the alicia keys) 2 for Jay-z and 2 "Sunshine"...MC Lyte's "Cha Cha Cha" would have also been acceptable. 2 for chic and 2 for chic cheer 2 for faith and 2 for "love like this" plus 4 bonus points...

a whopping 26...big up!

as for the 5th one...I got y'all on that one...I figured the song that sampled it would be easy enough to figure out..but i guess not..granted its not the main part of the song it is also the break in the song...and you'll probably trip when you hear who the original artist was...here goes

Track 5 was sampled by Young MC on "Bust a Move" and the orginal track is "Daytime Hustler" by get this...BETTE MIDLER! Okay the next sample sampler is gonna be up shortly...i'll keep it kinda easy for now...good job to all who participated.

Peace Wyze.
