WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

adding one to the list....

so....yesterday I got to meet a great bunch of musicians that form the band Guster. They sounded great and you couldn't ask for a nicer bunch of guys. This is the second soundcheck deal I've been to compliments of DAVE fm and it really gave me insight on how it just doesn't "come together" magically, it takes work, and it's cool to see people who care about their work. Truth be told, I never really heard any of their stuff except for what's played on the radio, I even had to buy the cd yesterday before the show so I'd have something for them to sign. After yesterday I'm on the hunt for everything they have. So yeah, I do that. Some things that I read say that Guster just "doesn't grab" them like many other acts, and I can't see why it doesn't, just a taste thing I guess. Give them a serious listen, I don't think you'll be disappointed By the way, for the GA locals, Guster is playing Mercer University in Macon for those who want to see. I've included some photos. One is me and my best friend with the lead singer starting with me on the right and the other is well...a drunk photo...ha!

  1. lemontwist says Guster is amazing. I've seen 'em live three times and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

  2. dermahrk says I like the "One Man.." track, which I got on a sampler (Paste, I think). I bought one of their earlier CDs and didn't care that much for it. All I can remember is a lot of bongos. Hope their latest material sounds more like the "One Man" track. Does it?

  3. lemontwist says Goldfly has a the acoustic guitar, bongo feel. Lost and Gone Forever also has remnants of that, but it's more eclectic (in a good way) and a bit poppier. Keep It Together is a lot poppier than the rest, every song is sing-along-able and lots of fun. Ganging Up On The Sun is the one with One Man Wrecking Machine. It's my favorite Guster album, it's not quite as poppy as Keep It Together, it's different. I would suggest checking the rest of the album out if you dig that one song. Check out Satellite, Manifest Destiny, The New Underground and C'Mon, for starters.

  4. Worth4Camels says i'm sort of embarrased to say that i haven't listened to the entire album yet, since my poor computer died, i have heard satellite, manifest destiny and one man wrecking machine from the album, those are great. they did a great song at the sound check called Brazil with all instruments, even a trumpet. like i said, i'm on the hunt now for all of their stuff.

  5. lemontwist says I've got everything but their first album. And I've been lucky enough to score vinyl copies of their past two releases. Guster is one of the few bands that I actually like having real, physical albums from. Most bands I'm content enough with the iTunes downloads. :) Good luck on your Guster quest. :)

  6. Brett Schieber says DaveFM is very cool. Congratulations on winning the soundcheck thing. I'm jealous. They are definitely one of the best bands to see live.
