ok, so......when i ask all of my friends is they watched the grammys over the weekend all i get is "well, i'm not really into awards shows" or "why would i want to watch a bunch of self apprechiating people pat themselves on the back?". I totally understand, I didn't watch the Grammys last year myself. This year, however, was different. I cleared my sunday night and even tried to talk my friends and loved ones into watching and i thoroughly enjoyed it. It was all about the performances for me. Although I missed what I was originally tuning in for (The Police reunion) I saw a set of really good musicians. Well...ok...not all of them were good, but a good many of them where. I was particularly impressed by Mary J Blige and the legend/mayer/ray performance. I tend to go for artists that hold it together live, often developing a taste for an artist's live recordings rather than their studio recordings. Hell, even Christina Aguilera did a great job on "It's a Man's World"....(and quit that scoffing! all those who know me) I really liked it. The shrill note in the middle of the song was easy to over look after her compensation for it at the end. I wasn't overly impressed by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the flying paper at the end must have been a mess to clean up, and I wasn't at ALL impressed with Chris Brown, but in his defense I have to say: it must be tough to carry a note while your looking at your feet and doing a backflip off of a trampoline. Oh right, The Dixie Chicks, good for them, I still haven't quite formed an opinion on that totally. I was going for John Mayer on Album of the year and for Mary J on Record of the year though......they couldn't just let them have 3?? BUT anyway, that's my quick take on the Grammys, "fun time had by all."
