Latin Music's Coolest Export... Live, 10 Years Ago Tonight

From my hard drive to yours. Can't remember where I scored this (thanks...) and can't tell you much about it beyond the obvious, but fans should enjoy this nearly two hour show recorded live in Portland, two weeks before the release of This Time.
The sound is clear... but be aware there are issues, mostly guitar levels and feedback, which you'll hear the soundman wrestling with throughout the show. Los Lobos were considered cool back in 1984 for their authentic, roots/Mex spin on rock and roll. Later, they got downright excellent with 1992's Kiko, which sported a rare radio hit for the band. But, Los Lobos became essential listening when they revamped their entire formula to incorporate junkyard percussion and lo-fi aesthetics into the almost anti-commercial Amazing Colossal Head. They've been one of my favorite bands ever since. Check out this show's unusual selection of material, including Traffic's "40,000 Headmen" & "Dear Mr. Fantasy," Richard Thompson's "Shoot Out The Lights" and The Grateful Dead's "Bertha." Not to mention "La Bamba," a song these guys probably wish by now they'd never heard, played here to the tune of Bob Dylan's "Like A Rolling Stone" - more specifically, Jimi Hendrix's Monterey Pop Festival arrangement. Now that's cool!
