Nicole Atkins goes indie

According to Spinner, Nicole Atkins and Columbia Records have parted ways.

"We got divorced," Atkins tells Spinner. "Even when I was over there, it didn't seem like the right place to be. The company that I signed up to got fired within the first couple months of me being over there."

"I just want to be somewhere that is a little bit smaller and easier to get things done faster," she says.

She originally wanted to release her second album this year sometime but it eventually didnt seem like that was going to happen.

She's got 38 songs for the new album which should be cut down to 12 or 13 for the final release.

Some internet talk says she could join The Parlor Mob at Roadrunner (who were 2nd in the bidding war with Columbia back in 06) or possibly A.C Newman's label Matador after she guested on his recent album "Get Guilty" and toured with the New Pornographer frontman.
