It's been a crazy week for me, with the end of school coming up next friday - the "avslutning." Anyway I finally got all my photos done and hung up for the exhibition here at school and I'm starting to wind down a little. I realize the only thing that really keeps me sane and moving forward is music, fairly selfevidently. So, here I sit on a friday night "moging" and listening to NPR from Detroit via the miracle of the internet. I hear a voice say "...Terry Gross speaking with Dick Dale in 1993." I had a short panic moment where my first thought was 'did he die?? No, please no!' I love surf music and this time of year I'm always in the mood for surf music (and Oi! music) for some reason. It's good spring time music. If I had my Dick Dale LPs with me I'd pull 'em out and throw 'em on the turn table. Skipping the songs where he sings. Sorry Dick, you're not a horrible singer but you aren't good either. Stick to the instrumentals! My bro even posted a Mog item about Man...Or Astroman? So you see, surf is in the air folks. Dick Dale is pretty much the God of surf guitar but most of you already know that. The number of bands, both surf and non-surf oriented that Dick Dale has influenced is uncountable...if that is even a word, I don't know. I was worried that Dick Dale had passed away due to the old interview but, whew! I'm glad he's still with us. With all the ups and downs that just today alone has brought me it would have been sad to cap off a day like this with news of someone like Dick Dale kicking the bucket.
