I live in this piss ant college town called Ann Arbor. One cool thing we had in this no horse town was Ron Asheton! And its really strange because there is a handful of us here that know who the man was and always took pride that Ron and the Stooges were from Ann Arbor (NOT Detroit!). And I could tell people I lived across the highway from Ron Asheton (I-94), just a Stroh's bottle throw away. However Ron was a recluse - big time. So it's no surprise that they didn't find his body for several days. I saw him perform a few times in the past 10 years and he still had his guitar playin' chops. Even though Ron played some way cool bands after the Stooges, he will always be remembered for being a Stooge. Ann Arbor will ceratinly be more suburban-white and boring without him, that is for sure!
But we still have great songs like this one to remember him by...

A friend of mine saw Ron nearly get in a fight with a guy in a restaurant on (the first?) Stooges reunion tour. He had a lot of oddness; I have this terrific issue of Motorbooty with lots on the Stooges and MC5, Ron was apparently a real wildman.
None of which I'd care about if he wasn't such a fucking great guitarist.
You in Ann Arbor again? Rock Action, man.
AND currently listening to a song called I-94, performed by Wayne Kramer, Deniz Tek and Scott Morgan. Do you have the album they did together? It's real good, lemme know.
bummer days. ron will be missed.
Glad I had the chance to see Ron perform with the Stooges in '07. Never thought that would happen.
RIP
Rob - Yeah, I've been back in Ann Arbor for about 1 year and half. We're a quite a bit less Rock Action now that Ron is gone. There are some good stories about Ron. The once or twice that I accidentally met him, he seemed real cool and like a regular guy. If you're talkin' Dodge Main - I've got the LP. In the non-winter months when I sleep with the window open, I can hear cars and trucks on I-94. Everytime I go to Detroit, it's a straight shot down I-94.
King and Gritty - I've been talking to friends in the music scene here today and we're all remembering him. Seems Scott Morgan's Powertrane is playing here next friday, so we're guessing there might be some Stooges songs on the set list.
On an unrelated note, someone once clued me into the address of the Funhouse house that the Stooges once lived in. It's no longer there but it was at 2666 Packard Road, here in Ann Arbor.
I hadn't heard the news. Damn shame. The Stooges were really one of the rawest bands, from day one. There's some great annecdotes in "Please Kill Me." It was a bit more nihilistic than hippy dippy for those guys.
Too bad. I lived in Ann Arbor for five years and went to junior high with his brother Scott. Great town, now not as great.
