You don't need to be a mirror-ball diva or a platform prince to know that the one thing neo-disco needs more of is gender-bending mopeage. Featuring periodic vocals by millennial androgynator Antony (sans his Johnsons), Hercules and Love Affair's debut full-length is at once funky and far out — a delicate, dichotomous work courting decadence in the face of unwavering despair. On the dance floor, the beats are appropriately indulgent — with sweeping strings, heavy bass, and flowery accouterments — simultaneously complementing and subverting the deep boogie. - Andrew Phillips

What Goldfrapp Has To Say About Madonna And Jay-Z

NEW YORK (Reuters) - They are credited with influencing the fashion style of Madonna but British electronica band Goldfrapp don't have much time for the pop diva or other big acts they will be playing with this summer.

Grammy-nominated Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory, whose fourth album "Seventh Tree" hit No. 2 in Britain in February, will share the big stages at two outdoor British music festivals with hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and Madonna.

"I think her fearlessness is amazing but I don't have particularly any admiration for her work," Goldfrapp, dressed in tight blue jeans, a shirt and sunglasses that were never removed, told Reuters in a recent interview.

On Sunday, the group -- acclaimed for their breadth of musical styles that canvas anything from pop to dance to glam rock -- kick off a tour of European concerts and summer festivals starting at BBC's Radio 1 music festival, where Madonna is also performing.

The straight-talking Goldfrapp will also be mixing with Jay-Z at Glastonbury, which has been criticized for straying from its roots by featuring the rapper as one of its top acts.

"People don't want it to become Americanized or kind of different, where you can't just wander around any more sort of half-naked with mud over you. I can see, understand that," Goldfrapp said about world's biggest open-air music and arts festival, which she dubbed "an English institution."

"I understand why people might start getting nervous that it will slowly wipe out the eccentric hippies ... Hip-hop is really conventional, I think," she said. "It's quite flashy, it's a lot about money, money."

Gregory, who hails from Bristol, England -- famed for breeding other electronic groups such as Massive Attack and Portishead -- said hip-hop was "about being wealthy, wearing a lot of jewelry" and was likely taken on due to Glastonbury's ever-growing reach.

"Now it's like Wimbledon, getting this global TV coverage," said the keyboardist. "And with that presumably came some extra pressure to conform to whatever market or youth culture."

Goldfrapp are touring after releasing "Seventh Tree," a departure in style from their previous two albums, including 2005's dance album "Supernature" that earned them two Grammy nominations.

They recently appeared on stage in New York -- Alison Goldfrapp in a pink cape, barefoot and with wild curly hair after a recent image change -- in the same week as Madonna, whose live shows and pink leotard worn on the cover of her 2005 album "Confessions on a Dance Floor" prompted numerous comparisons to Goldfrapp's image.

But Goldfrapp's new earthier look, which she says has changed "quite radically," is in keeping with the lower-key "Seventh Tree," recorded in Bath, England and featuring her signature soft vocals.

In the single "A&E," which topped the U.S. Billboard dance singles chart and peaked at No. 9 in Britain, she sings "I was feeling lonely, feeling blue," but she said turmoil is not necessary to writing good songs.

"When you suffer real turmoil you are disabled and that is terrible," she said. "Of course eating cake and tea all day and living the life of Riley is not stimulating either."

(Editing by Michelle Nichols and John O'Callaghan)

Worried Noodles Companion CD

If you have not already done so BUY Worried Noodles cause it's brilliant !!!!

I just picked up his latest offering called Forced To Speak To Others yet another look into the weird mind of David Shrigley !

Snagged Off Amazon

Late Night Tales presents the first collection of audio offerings from acclaimed British satirical artist, David Shrigley. Features Shrigley’s dark rhetoric to a backing of dark melodies, ominous percussion and playful sounds. This collection of tracks can only be described as weird and wonderful! Or perhaps bizarre and slightly unhinged or maybe brilliant and genius? Shrigley has penned 14 tracks of spoken word stories and mutterings on subjects as diverse as Satan’s apocalyptic rock concert, giant hairy children, ludicrously clumsy fathers and an insect that desires to lays eggs inside someone’s brain.

If you loved Noodles Than You'll LOVE this album !

EPIC !

Booka Shade
Friday Apr 25 (10pm) @ Mezzanine, 444 Jessie St

German electrohouse pioneers Booka Shade treat San Francisco to a rare stateside club appearance on their way to Coachella. Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier produce aesthetically refined dance music for their boutique label Get Physical, formed in 2002 with M.A.N.D.Y. (who're conveniently co-headlining). Booka Shade's dynamic beats and undulating synths reference Warp Records blips and Italo-disco spaciness, but with a shinier production sense and arrangements that flirt with pop. M.A.N.D.Y. operate in a similar vein, infusing house music's endless beat parade with a much-needed touch of soul.

National Record Store Day ~ Sat 19th !

On Saturday, April 19, 2008, hundreds of independently owned music stores across the country will celebrate “Record Store Day.”

Please buy a record or two or 40 even if you don't have a record player, give it to someone who has !

It saddens me greatly to think that one day there will be no more records.

Here's some quotes of some independent record store owners found at

http://www.recordstoreday.com/home.html

Andrea Anderson (Angry Young & Poor, (Punk Music & Clothing))
"Indy music is in our blood....we love checking out the shops where ever we go. We started in high school shopping in a local favorite shop here in Lancaster, and then traveling to Philly, DC, and NYC and decided to open up own own place after college. The flyers, poster art, local scenes, and the feeling you get from an indy store can never be found at a mall or superstore. We've been open for 12 years and can't believe how lucky we are to still be doing what we love!"

Zak Frankel, Zia Records
Record Store Day is a day to show all fans of music that true interest and artistry can co-exist with retail and still have a personal touch.

Michael Ross, Founder and President (Delicious Vinyl)
"When we started Delicious Vinyl, getting our records in record stores validated our existence. If we saw our 12" in the racks at Rock & Soul in New York City that for us was the ultimate! When I saw Tone-Loc's 12" Wild Thing well-stocked at Tower Records on Sunset Blvd., that was a surreal and gratifying moment. Even though that was another era, there's still something about the role of the record store in the process of discovery of music that can never be replicated. There's so much you can discover on-line, but you've got to get out from behind the computer and get into a record stores."

Michael and Denise Roumbanis (dig! music in Ukiah)
Our community record stores are where we share our passion for music with others! We are important to all kinds of music lovers who need information, want advice and hope to be turned on to some new tunes. And indie stores are magnets. . . places to hear live music, where musicians meet other musicians, where friendships are made . . . where people find common ground. . . hell where the “young ones” pick up their first copy of Led Zeppelin II !!

Our local record stores are still the best places to be turned on to new sounds or to rediscover music that has influenced our lives. . . there’s just NO substitute for the vibe!! We must ROCK ON!

Mike Manly (Hot Dog Music - Sacramento)
I just opened my store a couple weeks ago because I believe indie record stores are important - now more than ever. Music is personal to people and (given the option) most people prefer to buy it from a store that has a personality. Indie record stores care about the music and people are learning to appreciate that again. Buying music at the same place you get your dog food is a totally empty experience. Indie record stores fill you up.

Al Steele (Wyatt Erap Records)
"Living in a world where FYE Wal-mart or Best Buy are your music outlets suck I still do this everyday because "MUSIC MATTERS" and when all those corprate ships sink and bands are looking for customers we will still be your outlet and source for the music that matters."

Jonas Chiba
“As an employee of an indie record store/independent musician i honestly wouldn't be doing what i'm doing today if it wasnt for places like these. you dont get the same vibe when you walk into an indie shop as you do when you walk into best buy or whatever. on a weekly basis i am exposed to new music that i would have never known existed if i was shopping at a chain store. you cant replace the value of the experience you get going into these places. its really a shame to see the younger generation of kids not utilizing places like these. instead they would rather just download the hottest new track from a band they only listen to because myspace told them to. dont let independent record stores die! otherwise i will be out of a job!!”

Bryan Burkert (The Sound Garden)
"It's always about the TRUTH. Indie stores stock what matters. What matters to our communities. What moves our staffs. It's never just been retail--it's a culture. Through 33s, 45s, 78s, LPs, boot-legs, CDs, DVD's, eight track, underground mixes and cassette tapes there remains one constant: Indie Record Stores. Imagine a world without em--just Wal-Mart, Best Buy and Apple--sucks don't it."

Dilyn Radakovitz (Dimple Records)
"Indy record stores spell FREEDOM to discover all kinds of music and entertainment to expand your life and live it!"

Mike Dreese (Newbury Comics)
"The independent record stores in America represent what I value most - undiluted, uncensored, unfettered support for artistic expression"

Joe Nardone, Jr. (Gallery of Sound)
“Independent record stores represent the heart, soul and foundation of the recorded music world.”

Derek Frye (Cat's Music)
"The independent record stores are what keeps much of the music-consumer relationships real and unharmed by major labels and large media corporations. The bond of the music and fans is more intimate when you hear it at a record shop or discover it by word of mouth rather than just hearing a catchy track on the radio or seeing a music video on the top 10 countdown.

Indie record stores allow the people to choose their music and not be force-fed music by the corporate side of the industry."

Chrys Hansen(modern music)
"Indy record stores are where you go when you first realize there's a whole new world of music for you to explore"

Bret D. Daugherty (13th floor music)
People think just because i own a record store, i only buy from myself. nah, nah, nah...i love going down to louisville, up to indianapolis or terre haute...or wherever i may be...just to find an independent record store. no one ever wants to go with me, though, because i have to look at everything. what's the point in going to a lame, corporate, big-box store? everything's the same in every store. every independent record store is different. i love 'em all! much love and respect to ALL independent record stores everywhere!

If your in the Bay Area please visit

1-2-3-4 GO! Records at 419 40th St. Oakland, your place for the best Punk, Indie Vinyl

There are other stores participating so check the site.

VIVA LA VINYL !!!!!!!!

Travis Barker Settles In Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES - Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has tentatively settled a lawsuit against the Rockstar energy drink company over the use of his picture to promote the product.

Terms of the settlement were not disclosed in court papers filed Friday in Superior Court.

A call to Rockstar Beverage Corp.'s attorney was not immediately returned Monday. Barker's lawyer, Gregory Weisman, said both parties were still working out terms. He declined to elaborate until the deal is completed.

Barker's lawsuit claimed invasion of privacy, unfair competition and misappropriating his likeness to promote the product.

The lawsuit said the Rockstar Web site published a photo of the 32-year-old Barker "holding a can of one of Rockstar's beverages, and identifying him and his endorsement by name" without his consent.

Fall Down The Music Hole

The third release from the French vocalist best known for her work with Nouvelle Vague. 'Music Hole' shows a key turn in her career: it is mostly sung in English. "In 'Music Hole', I tried to mix the story-telling, "chansons" feel from musicals with something more tribal: body percussions, minimalist trance, sub bass and throat singing" says Camille. 'Music Hole' is co-produced by Camille and MaJiKer. It features collaborations with the body percussion masters from the Brazilian band Barbatuques, Jamie Cullum on piano percussions and beatbox by Sly Johnson.

Another stellar release Camille !

I've long been a fan of Miss Basey and always a lover of a cover. So imagine my glee when the Dame came out with an album of covers, re-works and remixes !!! Woo Hoo !! And it's title says it all " Get The Party Started "

Most known for her fab vocals for 3 James Bond songs ~ Goldfinger, Diamonds Are Forever and Moonraker.

After a decade since her last release she sounds as great as ever and 70 never looked so good !

Thanks Dame !

Here she's feeling a lil Pink

File Under Shows That I'm Pissed I Can't Make !

This is not to be missed ! I've seen both these guys ( separately ) and here they are together !!

Argentinian-born Swedish singer/songwriter José González is best known for stripping electronic songs to their acoustic essence — his interpretation of the Knife's "Heartbeats" breathes warmth into the original's menacing robo-rock, and his version of Massive Attack's "Teardrop" revels in romantic urgency. However, González's own tunes deserve just as much attention: his second album, In Our Nature, displays an almost religious adherence to delicate, minimalist melodies that highlight his ethereal tenor. Atmospheric folkie Mia Doi Todd, herself a miracle worker with voice and guitar, opens the show.

Thursday 27th 8pm The Fillmore tix $22.50

Sure to be a night of Acoustic Greatness !

Your final score was 93/180

Birthday Party DJ (73-108 points)
You are a rabid consumer of music. You get a rush every time you hear something new but remain faithful to those artists you love. Your music collection represents who you are and what you care about and your home may even bear the tell-tale signs of your affections – posters, old band t-shirts and the odd music biography. But you aren't a completist, you know what you like and make sure you have it. Simple as that. To expand your repertoire, perhaps there are some genres that you'd benefit from giving a little more attention to – perhaps now is the time to hear something new or get hold of that missing album from your collection.

What's Yourz ?

The first two are from an awesome group named Volga, a bit hard to find but worth it ! She sings old Russian spirituals to an acid beat. I guess sort of like Dead Can Dance Russian style. The others are just ones I clicked on as they were
similar. ENJOY !

Unsigned Greatness

I don't know about you but when I come across a new artist that in my opinion is amazing then find out they don't have a record deal SO bums me out, and I wish I had one to sign them to !

Thats t he case with Trevor Wilson, who is he ? heres his description off his myspace music profile ~

There's a constant stream of words that have been dribbling down from my chin since I was two. These sounds are not bound by any outside regulations. They are as accurate a representation of my internal consciousness as I have been able to reconstruct.

My last project was a band called 'Tall Ships', a satisfying collaboration between musician-friends of mine. The current project is 'Plants and Bodies', a recording of two song-cycles due to be released in early March. (see 'Things to Come!' for more info).

I don't play enough shows, so I would love invitations. I am an open person and love my friends deeply. I should also mention I love making new friends. I am interested in uncovering commonalities in humans.

Here are a few excerpts from an article by my friend, colleague, and psychoanalysist Ben Bernstein of The Hippodrome.

"“Nana Nana Nana Na Na Na” (not to be confused with “Nana Nana Na Na,”) is actually one of the most lyrically poignant songs I’ve heard in years. How can this be so? Part of the reason is because Wilson isn’t afraid to use the words “fun” and “interesting” in the same sentence...

These three most recent tracks (One Mile, Bitter Passage, Mighty Spruce)... show Wilson at his most focused and intricate. All of these pieces are consistent with Wilson’s writing about personal experience through analogy instead of the usual blasé ambiguity. A type of trilogy, these three tracks are a candid and multi-layered walk through Wilson’s mind.

Hopefully when you listen to these tracks, you’re able to appreciate not just the ripe sense of musicality that is a staple of Wilson’s work, but also a fierce desire to reach out to the listener."

He has thoughtfull and neat lyrics so PLEASE visit him at http://www.myspace.com/tvwilson

And if u dig them plese buy his songs !

And keep your eyes out for this up and comming singer !

In Session With Carl Craig

Todd L. Burns checks in with underground legend and now Grammy nominee Carl Craig.

What can you say about Carl Craig these days? The Detroit techno producer and DJ is an inspiration to just about every artist ever featured on Resident Advisor. The reason is simple: Craig has been making records since the early nineties but he has reinvented himself time and time again, most notably as jazz impresario, remix god, crunk promoter and record label tycoon. He’s tireless in his reach and insatiable in his appetite for new sounds.

So, now that we have that out of the way, we can actually talk about Carl Craig. Because, you know, he’s also just a dude who lives in Detroit with his wife and two kids. A man that likes to bring his friends along to work with him when he can. A guy who gets excited by music—just like the rest of us.

At least that's the impression that I got when talking to him recently. Craig was engaging, funny and passionate about the work that he does, whether it be trying to craft a two-and-a-half hour mix of classic joints or convincing Mike Banks to come play keyboards for him in Paris. Oh. And, if you thought his music career was exciting, just wait till you hear about his plans for his avant garde restaurant chain.

I’ve read a lot of interviews in which you’ve talked about Detroit techno and its capacity to embody futurism. So, I have to ask about Sessions: why release a two-disc compilation of largely previously released material?

Ahhh. You know, sometimes you gotta revisit the past to go to the future. I think I’ve said that too. [laughs] It’s a bit of revisiting the past, but I think that now is a better time to do something like this than it would be to wait another ten or twenty years. The music is strong. The remix, the production, and DJ part of my career have all been very strong, so I think this is a good time.

Why is now better than, say, in ten years?

You never know what’s going to happen in that time, you know? I mean, in ten years I’ll be 48 years old and I don’t know if I’ll be necessarily known as a dance guy at that time. Or a remix guy. I might be more known for doing, say, classical stuff. You never know. I might take over from the great Stockhausen. [laughs] Maybe I’ll change my name to Carl Stockhausen!

Are the two Sessions CDs different in terms of what you’re trying to present? Or perhaps just what fit together best? I feel like the second CD is a bit darker...

I don’t know about that actually because it was all done in one go. I have a hard time starting mixes in the studio. I try to do everything where it comes from inspiration, so the mix came together only hours and hours after false starts. I think I started at about six in the evening and it finally came together at six in the morning. [laughs] At that point, I was just like, “OK, CD 1, CD 2. Let’s cut it.” That’s why you’ll hear the fade that comes in at the beginning of the second CD because that’s where I mixed from the Delia and Gavin mix.

"Our culture celebrates being a bad boy, whether it be hip-hop or rock. It doesn’t translate to dance music."

I’ve heard that you’ve helped produce the jazz guys in Tribe, right? Can you tell me a little bit about them?

Yeah, the Tribe collective is from Detroit. They started out in the ‘70s: it was Marcus Belgrave, Wendell Harrison, Phil Ranelin and Doug Hammond. They all released music on the Tribe label. It was actually started by Wendell and Phil. They made Detroit modern jazz with revolutionary overtones, but it was music that was something like the stuff that was coming out on Black Jazz and Strada.

How did you get involved with them?

I worked with Marcus Belgrave on the Detroit Experiment record. When I met him then, I’d told him that I was interested in doing something with the Tribe stuff because we had done ‘Space Odyssey’ on that album and that song was originally put on Tribe in 1973 or so. We had talked a lot about it, but nothing really came together until I asked him to play a gig in Paris and he couldn’t make it. He asked me to talk to Wendell about it. Luckily, when I talked to Wendell about it he was like, “Hell yeah, let’s do it!”

Can you tell me a little bit about that recent 12” you put out, ‘Paris Live’? Is this the same thing? It seems like another case of you revisiting the past, but in a very interesting way.

Yeah. I was asked to perform for the opening of Jacqueline Caux’s film, Detroit: The Cycles of the Mental Machine, a movie about Detroit’s past, present and future in a very political sense. It wasn’t candy-coated view of Detroit at all. Because she went through so much to finally get this thing made, when she asked me to perform, I really wanted to do something special.

The first person that I thought to ask was Marcus. Because he couldn’t come, though, Wendell was there, Kelvin Sholar was on keyboards, and I really wanted to put some sprinkles on top, so I asked Mike Banks (He knows Jacqueline as well.) It was really fantastic to have him come. I asked Mike to come as a keyboard player, you know? Not as Underground Resistance or anything that anybody knows Mike as being. I was just like, “Come on Mike, play keys!” and he was all “Yeah! Let’s do it!” [laughs]

So, how did the show go?

Well, we rehearsed a bit in Detroit, then rehearsed a bit over there. It was at the Centre Pompidou, an art museum, so it was a sit-down only crowd and it was just amazing to do these versions in front of them. Because, you know, with any artist whether it’s on tape or live, they have to revisit their music at some point in their life. And so we did versions of ‘Sandstorms’ and ‘Twilight,’ as well as ‘At Les’ and a bunch of other stuff. We ended up playing for about an hour, hour-and-a-half.

Are there plans for further releases of that material?

The plan was to do a Paris Live DVD, but I haven’t quite had a chance to mix it yet.

Recently Planet E has been signing European acts like Lazy Fat People, Buttrich, Vince Watson. Is that a conscious move? Are you listening to a lot of European techno these days?

I’m listening to a lot of anything that I think is interesting. [laughs] There’s interesting music that is coming from Detroit, but a lot of those guys already have their own labels. It’s not a conscious move to put out music that’s European. It’s a conscious move to put out music that I like. If it’s interesting, I put out.

You’ve also just recently started releasing Planet E’s music digitally. Why did it take you so long? Were you against digital? Or did you just not have your stuff together to do so quickly?

I’m not against digital at all. I mean, I prefer vinyl. The problem with digital and getting used to digital is how to make it work where somebody isn’t taking your music. I’ve had a lot of people who just simply download my music online. For free, I mean. Vinyl makes people take three steps before they can actually put mp3s up online to download. And you have to take even more steps to bootleg it. You know, it’s just that difference between making it easy for people to put it up on sites to download for free or to go on with the way that we’re doing it with vinyl already.

Positively Lower East Side: Carl Craig in New York.

I just decided that I’d stick with vinyl. I love vinyl. I love the process to make it and, of course, the end result. But, at the same time, I’m somebody who travels and plays with Serato. I do buy music on Beatport and it makes sense for me to sell music on there. So, I’m not against it at all, we were just a little slow. And I was a little wary about it.

Tell me about the upcoming Demon Days parties. Why are you continuing with them?

I’ve had a lot of fun with them, you know? It’s a nice change. Gamall and I get together and it’s really cool to do it on a different level than what I usually do. In Europe I feel like people hear and listen to music a little bit differently than they do in the United States. I think Demon Days gives us more of an opportunity in the US to, you know, have it be an interesting concept. A lot of people think that they know what I do and they come out and it’s all scenesters or whatever. Demon Days is more for those who know.

How do people listen to music differently in Europe than in the United States?

I think people in Europe are exposed to music differently simply because Europe is multiple countries in the same amount of land size as the United States. In the States we have three or four companies, basically, that control radio. They control what’s heard throughout the country. There’s very little difference between what happens on New York radio and what happens on Detroit radio. In Europe, you have the BBC in England and various stations throughout the country and then in Belgium you have completely different programming altogether. I think people over there maybe are more open to hearing other things because they have that history of diversity in music.

I mean, if you listen to the BBC these days, you’ll hear a bunch of commercial stuff during the day with a couple of things sprinkled in every so often. But, then in the nighttime, it progresses and they do things a little bit differently. I mean, show me a place in the United States where they have a Gilles Peterson or where they have a jazz show. Tell me how many public radio stations in major cities in the US that even play music these days! Our public radio station here in Detroit plays music for something like two hours a day. From 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. and then they go back to news again. I don’t think you’d ever have that in each little country in Europe. And, even if it did happen in one, you’d still have twenty others to choose from. It’s simply easier over there to be able to get a bit of diversity and not just commercial music all day long.

Do you feel like that’s why techno has never really gained a foothold in America? Or is that just one of many reasons?

It’s one of many reasons. I really feel that in the US that our land size is simply too big. I also think a big thing is that our culture celebrates being a bad boy, whether it be hip-hop or rock. That’s our culture and it doesn’t translate to dance music. We never had that connotation with techno. The only image that you got was what the news media put out there about people using too many drugs. So then people just came out for the drugs and didn’t come out for any other reason. We never had that commercial angle that was presented to people in the same way that it was with hip-hop or rock that was so strong in shaping the precious little minds of our children. [laughs]

What does Carl Craig do for fun? Are you watching movies? Sports?

I ask myself that all the time. [laughs] When I’m on the road I like to watch movies. When I’m at home, though, I watch a lot of TV. I haven’t been one to go out to the movies much. I’ve never found movies that attractive of an escape.

That’s funny. I would have guessed the opposite. You named a track ‘Suspiria’ and there’s, of course, been other references to films.

Yeah, I’ve got all that on video. I’m just not that into going to movies. Detroit isn’t really designed for anybody to do anything easily. [laughs] It’s not like you can walk out of your house and be at a movie theater. You always have to drive. I’d ask my parents to drive me to the movies when I was a kid, but you know... I think I would’ve been much more into movies when I was a kid if I had lived around the block from a movie theater or if I had lived in the city where it was more accessible. You know, Detroit turned into that kind of place, especially as I was growing up, that had such a bad name. “Ah, you don’t want to go anywhere in Detroit. You’ll get killed!”

I know it’s kind of sacrilege to ask, but have you ever thought about moving or has that never even entered your mind?

I’ve lived other places, but permanently it’d be pretty difficult. Detroit is really cheap. And it makes it possible to have a good studio and a great house. And do a lot of good things. I’ve flirted with it a little bit, but when it comes down to it—for my business and what we’re doing right now—Detroit is probably the best scenario.

Last question for you, although I think you already answered this earlier, but where do you see yourself in ten years?

[laughs] Yeah. Stockhausen Jr.! That’s my new chain! We have experimental burgers and, as a daily special, you can get a fish sandwich flown in on a helicopter!

Open Pandora's Box Of Tunes

I've been listening to Pandora for a few months now and LOVE it ! It's part of the Music Genome Project. Here's some info off their site.

About Pandora®

When was the last time you fell in love with a new artist or song?

At Pandora, we have a single mission: To play music you'll love - and nothing else.

To understand just how we do this, and why we think we do it really, really well, you need to know about the Music Genome Project®.

Since we started back in 2000, we have been hard at work on the Music Genome Project. It's the most comprehensive analysis of music ever undertaken. Together our team of fifty musician-analysts has been listening to music, one song at a time, studying and collecting literally hundreds of musical details on every song. It takes 20-30 minutes per song to capture all of the little details that give each recording its magical sound - melody, harmony, instrumentation, rhythm, vocals, lyrics ... and more - close to 400 attributes! We continue this work every day to keep up with the incredible flow of great new music coming from studios, stadiums and garages around the country.

With Pandora you can explore this vast trove of music to your heart's content. Just drop the name of one of your favorite songs or artists into Pandora and let the Genome Project go. It will quickly scan its entire world of analyzed music, almost a century of popular recordings - new and old, well known and completely obscure - to find songs with interesting musical similarities to your choice. Then sit back and enjoy as it creates a listening experience full of current and soon-to-be favorite songs for you.

You can create as many "stations" as you want. And you can even refine them. If it's not quite right you can tell it so and it will get better for you.

The Music Genome Project was founded by musicians and music-lovers. We believe in the value of music and have a profound respect for those who create it. We like all kinds of music, from the most obtuse bebop, to the most tripped-out drum n bass, to the simplest catchy pop tune. Our mission is to help you connect with the music YOU like.

We hope you enjoy the experience!
About The Music Genome Project®

We believe that each individual has a unique relationship with music - no one else has tastes exactly like yours. So delivering a great radio experience to each and every listener requires an incredibly broad and deep understanding of music. That's why Pandora is based on the Music Genome Project, the most sophisticated taxonomy of musical information ever collected. It represents over seven years of analysis by our trained team of musicologists, and spans almost a century of music (and soon several centuries!).

Each song in the Music Genome Project is analyzed using up to 400 distinct musical characteristics by a trained music analyst. These attributes capture not only the musical identity of a song, but also the many significant qualities that are relevant to understanding the musical preferences of listeners. The typical music analyst working on the Music Genome Project has a four-year degree in music theory, composition or performance, has passed through a selective screening process and has completed intensive training in the Music Genome's rigorous and precise methodology. To qualify for the work, analysts must have a firm grounding in music theory, including familiarity with a wide range of styles and sounds. All analysis is done on location.

The Music Genome Project's database is built using a methodology that includes the use of precisely defined terminology, a consistent frame of reference, redundant analysis, and ongoing quality control to ensure that data integrity remains reliably high. Pandora does not use machine-listening or other forms of automated data extraction.

The Music Genome Project is updated on a continual basis with the latest releases, emerging artists, and an ever-deepening collection of catalogue titles.

By utilizing the wealth of musicological information stored in the Music Genome Project, Pandora recognizes and responds to each individual's tastes. The result is a much more personalized radio experience - stations that play music you'll love - and nothing else.

Check It Out At www.pandora.com

And There is Pandora get together this Feb.
Hey, Tim here -
We are having a hometown get-together in Oakland on Thursday, February 7th at the Historic Sweet's Ballroom. I’m excited to be holding this event in Pandora’s neighborhood! It will be a great chance for me to share our story with you and hear what you have to say. I'll tell you about the Music Genome Project's beginnings, living through the dot-com collapse and what this last whirlwind year has been like. Most of all I'd like to get your ideas and thoughts about the service and where you think music is headed. We’ll also have some nice Pandora gear for everyone!
When: Thursday, February 7th @ 7 PM

Free but you MUST RSVP to this e-mail ( tour@pandora.com )

I (HEART) Coachella

Ok all you Easties check this out !

NASHVILLE (Billboard) - The promoters of the annual Coachella music festival in southern California are planning a New York-area version this summer, sources say.

The event, which will not carry the Coachella brand, will take place at Liberty State Park, just across the Hudson River from lower Manhattan in New Jersey. The park has hosted a handful of concerts in recent years, most notably a Radiohead show shortly before the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The new event gives promoters AEG Live/Goldenvoice a major summer presence in the area, where it will compete with the new Vineland festival, which will be held August 8-10 on a 500-acre, farm in Vineland, N.J., about 40 minutes outside of Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, an announcement is expected in the coming days revealing the lineup for this year's Coachella festival, to be held April 25-27 in Indio, Calif.

I'd so go to this as the one out here is a lil HOT!

All-tho this gives me flash backs of that lovely failure of trying to re-create Woodstock a few years back

Hmmm maybe not

as long as the water is not $8 ! I'll be happy

Philip Glass Scores Yet Another Film

But this time it's ALL about him !

Philip Glass' modern classical scores have been featured in many films, but now the artist himself will hit the big screen.

Koch Lorber Films has acquired U.S. theatrical and home video rights to Scott Hicks' documentary "Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts." The feature includes interviews with Martin Scorsese, Errol Morris, Chuck Close, and Christopher Hampton in its exploration of Glass' life and work.

"Glass" was shot in the 18 months leading up to the artist's 70th birthday last year. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

In addition to composing such operas as "Einstein on the Beach," Glass earned three Oscar nominations for scores to "Notes on a Scandal," "The Hours" and Scorsese's "Kundun."

Though Hicks is best known as the Oscar-nominated director of "Shine," he also helmed such TV documentaries as "Submarines: Sharks of Steel" and "The Great Wall of Iron."

"Glass" will premiere in April at New York's IFC Center to coincide with a revival of his opera "Satyagraha" at the Metropolitan Opera House.

The Day The Music Died

First off thanks for all the suggestions ! I tried all that I knew how to do and also had a friend of mine who knows alot more than me to have a look, after much searching and such I accepted the loss and am starting fresh!

It is completely my fault for not backing up my music files, had often thought about it but never got around to it.

If youd like to help a brother out and would like to send me a mix thru the mail I'll send one in return. I'm mostly into Female Volcals, Electronic, Avant Garde etc..

Leave me mog mail and we'll go from there.

also if we have traded in the past it would rock to get a copy of what I sent and will send a mix as well.

And as far as using windows media ~ my Mp3 player holds more windows media than Mp3's.

Thanks again for all those who left suggestions !

HELP !!!!! I'M FREAKING OUT !

I've just gone into my windows media player and when I tried to play a song I got the following message~

Windows Media Player cannot find the file. The link from the item in the library to its associated digital media file might be broken. To fix the problem, try repairing the link or removing the item from the library.

I had hoped it was just the one song but it is all of them !!!! Is there an easy way to fix this problem ? I'm not so tech savy so simple terms would be great.

If I have to bring it in for service will it be exspensive ?

I've almost 5,000 songs and I don't want to loose them.

Any help would be great

Thanks !

Mia and Jonah Do It Again !

With their stunning follow up to their first album Shine I. Take a look at what Kim Ruehl from Performers Magazine has to say about it !

It's not easy to follow a great debut with an even greater sophomore effort, but Mia Mustari and Jonah Blumstein are clearly not bothering to reinvent the wheel. Last time out on Shine I, the Oakland duo presented a more stripped-down approach to its often introspective, occasionally whimsical songs. This time around on their latest effort Rooms for Adelaide, Mia and Jonah opt for a more mainstream sound. Songs like "Rooms" and "3 Stories High" could easily fit on the FM dial between David Gray and Jack Johnson. Mustari's voice occasionally hearkens to Pat Benatar, at other times ("Junkyard Dog") it's almost a little Liza Minnelli, with enough vocal strut to knock down a row of trembling men.
"Morning Hymnal" stands out as Blumstein's finest performance. It's perfect for his innately echoic voice, which slides flawlessly into this slogging heat-drenched Southern Gospel-inspired tune, complete with heavy humming. In fact, Jonah's voice is so distant and haunting that it unfortunately tends to get lost against the vocal fortitude of his female counterpart. This is reconciled on "Angels Down" though, as both sets of vocals complement each other nicely and bring back that strange, trippy quality the singers mastered on their debut.
"Adelaide," the album's namesake, drips with emotion from the second Mia's voice enters. The accompaniment is decidedly folkier than anything else in this collection - except for maybe the fabulously romping "Wish" - as soft-rocking guitar strums, a subtle mid-range melody and occasional, minimal harmonica carry Mia's thick, husky voice. The lyrics practically sing themselves: "Light exchange concerning dogs and names / The candle burns the night down to the floor / Adelaide, he craves you to the core."
Rooms for Adelaide is a new direction for the band and, like anything new, it's not perfect. But who needs perfect when there's enough soul in these Rooms to go around? (Self-released)

Luna Seeds

So I recently posted about the amazing paring of Andy Barlow and Carrie Tree, here is a bio from their myspace ~

For nearly 10 years, Andy Barlow and Lou Rhodes cultivated one of the richest and most innovative sounds in contemporary music. More emotive than trip-hop, more angular than folk music, and more organic than most hybridized electronica, Lamb occupied the space between profound sadness and boundless jubilation, using a sophisticated marriage of sound and technology to communicate the rawest and most basic of human emotion. Barlow and Rhodes spoke two different languages through the same voice, but over time, that voice began to strain. In 2004, it stopped communicating all together............................ For the first time in ten years - since signing his record deal with Universal at 19 - Barlow was staring at a blank canvas. No tour dates, no timeline, no expectations. He produced a few tracks for various artists and added to his instrumentalist repertoire under the Hipoptimist alias he created before Lamb began, but nothing could fully satiate his desires. Nothing was coming out right. The only measure that could counteract the tumultuous emotion surrounding Lamb's dissolve was to introduce yet another element of change...................... Motivated by an invitation from his brother, Barlow decided to go hiking around Nepal. "Just go away for a month," he says. "Have a bit of 'finding Andy' again." One month turned into two, and from Nepal he traveled to India, where he stayed for four months….................. Around the same time, 24-year-old Carrie Tree was at a crossroads of her own. An accomplished guitarist and percussionist who'd toured with Damian Rice, Carrie had fashioned a bourgeoning musical career, but was beginning to experience firsthand the unfortunate side effects of industry................... "It always seemed to be about product and money and writing hits and playing showcases," she says. "Lots of people were trying to push me in directions I didn't know if I wanted to go in, and because you're a singer/songwriter, there's one of you and loads of them. I was starting to almost hate music, which is the scariest thing ever. I was stuck in the middle of all this stuff that had nothing to do with music, and I just had to get away."............... Like Barlow, Tree needed to centre herself amidst a tumultuous period of self-doubt. So she returned to Australia, where she had busked on the streets with her guitar at the age of 18. One afternoon, she received an e-mail through her Myspace page from a potential musical collaborator back home. "Would she be interested in doing a track?" She replied that she'd been living in Australia for the past year, and didn't have any immediate plans to come back to England. If she did, however, she would most definitely get in touch.................... "It was a beautiful e-mail," she remembers, "but when you're on the other side of the planet, it feels very far away. I didn't know there'd be a partnership there at all."................. Carrie was the only singer Andy had contacted............... Three months later, after Carrie had eventually returned from Australia, a friend decided to invite her along to a birthday party one Saturday night. Early Sunday evening, amongst a small assortment of stragglers, Carrie found herself playing an impromptu acoustic set in the living room of her long distance collaborator.................. "I just fell in love with her voice instantly," says Barlow. "From that point on, we started this project."............................ Luna Seeds is more than a new beginning for Barlow and Tree. It's an antidote that's strengthened muscles that had begun to atrophy. There are no clearly defined roles, with both contributing an equal amount of music and lyrics to the recordings in a free flowing exchange that's brought Andy a new level of confidence and Carrie a new set of creative tools. "I've only ever had my guitar or a piano, or at least two hands and one voice," says Tree. "It's all the ideas I've always had in my head." Influenced by folk singers like Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell, and John Martin, Carrie sings with a delicate, humble urgency that penetrates the deepest spaces of the soul with the flickering force of a whisper. Barlow coaxes unparalleled levels of eloquence and beauty from his machines, forging organic tones and textures over head-tripping beats. Unafraid to flirt with more accessible instrumentation and song structures, both musicians transform simple ballads into graceful odes of self-discovery. ...................... "Compassion" calls to mind epic Lamb instrumentals as Carrie's effected voice patiently unfolds over an evolving marriage of strings and sound design. "Tremors," meanwhile, showcases another of Luna Seed's unique gifts. "Long time ago; slowly, surely. Two souls collide; softly, swiftly. We played with rhythm and voice. How long would this good thing last?" sings Tree. The song, written by Andy shortly after Lamb's break-up, is the type of cathartic, expository writing that's revealed a previously untapped well of inspiration within............................ "I guess I've learned to be Andy Barlow now, rather than Andy Barlow from Lamb," he reveals. "Andy from Lamb is a whole lot easier because you've got the golden key. People want to take you around and be nice to you. The muscle of 'who I'm about' was so weak it took me a long time to get that back.".................................... The comparisons to Lamb are unavoidable, but the similarities are few and far between. Barlow and Tree are communicating likeminded thoughts through a united voice; a clear channel to a world replete with ethnic instrumentation, guitar balladry, inspired percussion, and luminescent, electronic treasures............................................ "After Lamb split up, everything had to burn before it could be rebuilt," Andy continues. "I feel my life growing again. After a year-and-a-half, the seeds are finally taking hold." ..............................................

AIH News

A quick breath for air this week as we lick our wounds after 2 solid months of shows through the European Summer and Fall. We (prefucely) thank everyone involved for what was an epic adventure. We saw so many new places and played to tonnes of people who we'd never met. We all ate too much cheese and bread as per usual.
So, we are about to tackle our 'Places Like This' album release tour in US of A. We will be joined along the way by Glass Candy, Panther and Lo Fi Fnk, all at different junctures and all totally AMAZING bands. Needless to say, we are psyched.
Folks in the UK wach out for our brand new single 'Hold Music' out in the next couple of weeks, as a digital and vinyl release and featuring a remix by the inimitable Max Tundra, which is utter genius. The cover art is another masterstroke by WIll Sweeney, who did the 'Places Like This' and 'Heart It Races' cove rs.
Late November sees us return to our island for some club shows which are all on sale now and with super special guests to be announced very soon. NB- We made the shows are all ages where possible, so apologies to people in cities we couldn't make that happen.
We are excited to announce that we will be doing our first ever tour in New Zealand in December the details of which are being finalised over the coming days, so stay tuned for that one.
In weird and exciting news, Our single 'Heart it Races' has been nominated for Australian SIngle of the Year at the annual ARIA awards, which for those of you not in Australia is quite a big deal (to be honest we cannot actually believe it), we are up against a whole bunch of oz heavyweights and people who had number one records, you know the types, silverchair, powderfinger, john butler, wolfmother..
It is on TV at the end of October, we'll be out of town be sure to watch it and have a laugh for us!
Our webstore, which has been down for quite some time is set to open in the next two weeks, it will be well stocked with new and 'vintage'(!) designs and CDs and vinyl from our back catalogue... we'll let you know when it is up.
Also keep your eyes peeled for our new video to be released in the next week or so for our next single in the US, 'Debbie', It is an epic saga, featuring real life pyrotechnics and some potential oscar nominations for our acting. It was made by Sydney's own Josh Logue, who is a genius dude.
Well, that's about for now. please come on and say hi at these shows we have coming up. It is gonna be a wild ride!

peace and love
