Green Day Rocks Hometown Fans at the Fox

Posted 8 months ago

This evening I had the privelege to attend a "secret" Green Day show in Oakland, CA at the incredibly beautiful and newly renovated Fox Theater.

Green Day was filming a DVD of the event and had quite the lighting and background visuals on stage.

The band was in great form, spending the first hour and twenty or so playing through the soon to be released 21st Century Breakdown. Hearing the piece live for the first time without listening to a recording or reading the lyrics, it can only be described as an epic voyage, the crowd was led by the punk troubadors through a tale of modern America featuring characters like Gloria and Christian. I look forward to hearing the studio release in one sitting as a suite.

The rest of the show featured some old favorites and a few shout outs to Oakland, including the extended grand finale of Homecoming. Go see them on their tour this summer, you won't be sorry.

Amazing- just what Oakland needs. Better than the Warfield, much more intimate than the Paramount - they did an amazing job. (for $90 mill, it better be ;) )

Looking forward to many shows there in the future

A bit of  trouble getting in but oh well I got in... "Murder City" is my favorite song on "21st Century Breakdown" 15 years ago when my sister had a copy of "dookie" I never thought I would Fly to Oakland, California and see them play in their hometown!!!
