San Francisco based rockers American Music Club will release The Golden Age(Merge) February 19, the follow up to 2004's Love Songs For Patriots, explains a spokesperson for the band.

Honeydripper Soundtrack Features Blues Legends

Rhino Entertainment will release the "Honeydripper" soundtrack on February 5, 2008.

"Honeydripped" was written, directed and edited by John Sayles. The film revisits the genesis of rock 'n' roll -- namely '50s rural blues from the Deep South.

The story depicts a second chance for an aging bluesman, the kickoff to a young guitar turk's career and the rise of rock 'n' roll itself.

Opening in New York and Los Angeles December 28 and nationally in January and February, the soundtrack to this blues music-themed period film includes new songs by Keb' Mo', Mable John and guitar phenom Gary Clark, Jr., who appears in the film as well. The album also contains a new song by Ruth Brown, the last recorded before her death in 2006. Rhino Records will release the soundtrack February 5.

The 15-song soundtrack features Stax Records veteran Mable John ("No Matter How She Done It") along with legendary artists Memphis Slim ("Bertha May") and Lil Green ("Why Don't You Do Right?)," as well as actor Danny Glover performing "Goin' Down Slow." The film introduces actor/musician Gary Clark Jr., about whom Texas Music Magazine wrote, "Probably the most talented Texas guitarist since a certain SRV." The soundtrack showcases his fiery fretwork on "Good Rockin' Tonight," "China Doll" and "Blue Light Boogie."

Jack White Working On Three Albums

Jack White is going for the hat trick. The White Stripes and The Raconteurs frontman is currently working on three albums at once, reports the Seattle Times.

Discussing the fallout The White Stripes scrapping the rest of their 2007 tour dates because drummer Meg White was suffering from acute anxiety, Jack explained:

“Half of me was glad because I have three other records I’m working on, and I didn’t have any time to work on them," he told the Seattle Times. "I was really getting worried that I might have to not do these things I wanted to do because of the touring.”

White would not name what the other projects he was working on, but denied it was The Raconteurs' new album or the long-rumored solo album.

He added that the canceled dates did not mark the end of The White Stripes though, declaring: “If it came to a point where Meg said 'I don’t want to be in this band anymore, it doesn’t fulfill me in any way,’ then it would be a different story. But she’s not saying that.”

White speculated on how long the band’s live break was going to be.

“I guess it’s up to her…she seems to be lively," he said. "She was really invigorating working together on this ’Conquest’ record (new single). I was wondering if she was interested and she was completely - very, very involved.”

White also spoke about the band’s collaboration with Beck.

“We had some songs that were kind of lingering around," he explained. "Meg and I had never really played them, we just kind of learned them in Beck’s living room. His studio wasn’t ready to go, so he just set it up in his living room. He’s inspiring to us because of the way he looks at folk music. It’s different from the way we look at folk music.”

Junkie XL, JXL in those cases where the term Junkie might cause offence (XL is for "Xpanding Limits"), has taken a break from his work on soundtracks for films and computer games and has released a remix of "More"(video below).

The original version of “More” made a great start at radio in late September by debuting at #9 on the FMQB Specialty Radio Singles Chart. It appears in the fast-paced action game by EA "Need For Speed Pro Street TM" and is the lead single from JUNKIE XL’s March 2008 Artwerk album release Booming Back At You. In other news, fans can find Junkie XL’s remixes of Britney Spears’ “Gimme More” on her current release Black Out and Bloc Party’s “A Weekend In The City” on a digital EP of B-sides and remixes.

The west coast tour extends what has already been an immensely productive year. The Kooks Announce N. American Tour

NME reports: "the indie superstars have just finished recording their second album with Tony Hoffer, who also helmed their 2006 debut Inside In/Inside Out at Ray Davies' Konk Studios in Hornsey, north London."

The group's debut has already gone 4x Platinum which prompted the group's recent performance with The Rolling Stones on their A Bigger Bang Tour at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Portishead's New Album "One Day" Away From Completion

The Bristol, England trip-hop trio Portishead is back in the studio, as previously reported. For fans, it's been a long stretch from their last release, 1997's self titled off of Go! Beat was their second and last studio album.

According to Geoff Barrow, the group's producer/instrumentalist, Portishead is only one day away from completing the new album.

The following message was posted yesterday (Oct. 23) on the group's website:

we went to london for a fews days to finish up. we worked in molko 9 back in ~Bristol now working on some art work and getting the live stuff together. i think one more day messing about with it and it will be done. then into the wonderful world of mastering.. [joke] also the amazing MADLIB is playing with us at ATP and im putting a footy (football) team together for a little 6 a side comp for a laugh.

Portishead is curating this year's installment of All Tomorrow's Parties and is said to perform for the event as well. ATP is set to take place December 7-9 at Butlins Holiday Centre in Minehead. No details on the football game have surfaced.

The Smiths Reunion Possible Says Johhny Marr

Johnny Marr has said that The Smiths may reform. "Stranger things have happened so, you know, who knows?," Marr said to BBC Five Live's Victoria Derbyshire.

In previous years, different member of the band, including Marr have ruled out a reunion. Most recently Morrissey revealed that he turned down a near $75 million offer to tour again.

The offer called for Morrissey to do a minimum of 50 shows all over the world under the Smiths' name, with the only stipulation being that Johnny Marr was also in the band. The offer has been refused." But other reports say that the whole $75 million tour was a hoax.

There really is no quick answer for Marr's apparent change of heart. In March 2006 Morrissey revealed that the Smiths were offered five million dollars to reunite for a performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which he turned down, saying, "No, because money doesn't come into it." He further explained, "It was a fantastic journey. And then it ended. I didn't feel we should have ended. I wanted to continue. [Marr] wanted to end it. And that was that." (FULL INTERVIEW HERE)

One of Manchester, England's more celebrated acts, The Smiths five year run ended in 1987. Out of their four albums, 3 peeked at #2 and one at #1 on the UK charts.

Dimebag's Longtime Girlfriend Tells Her Story On "L.A. Ink"

Rita Haney, the longtime girlfriend of late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, recently got a Dimebag tattoo on the set of the new TLC series "LA Ink" (starring tattoo artist Kat Von D, her staff and A-list clientèle). Watch the nine-minute segment below.

On December 8, 2004, while performing with Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag Darrell Abbott was shot and killed onstage by Nathan Gale. Abbott was shot a total of five times, at point-blank range in the back of the head. He was 38 years old.

Three others were killed in the shooting: concert attendee Nathan Bray, 23 of Columbus; club employee Erin Halk, 29 of northwest Columbus; and Damageplan security guard Jeff "Mayhem" Thompson, 40 of Texas.

New Collection Of Karen Dalton's Early Recordings

Folk legend Karen Dalton will posthumously release a new collection of recordings. The were made by Dalton and Boulder scene staple Joe Loop at his Attic club in 1962. Committed to tape some seven years before the release of Dalton's first LP, the Cotton Eyed Joe recordings find Dalton tackling a wealth of traditional songs and folk favorites from the likes of Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Ray Charles, and Fred Neil himself.

The disc will be released October 23. Only the American version includes a bonus DVD of Dalton footage from 1969-1970.

Radiohead's OK Computer' Made Into Musical

Radiohead’s OK Computer is set to come to life as a radio play on the BBC this coming October 19.

The play named after the band’s seminal album will draw on themes from each of its twelve tracks.

The play by Joel Horwood, Chris Perkins, Al Smith and Chris Thorpe guides us through the story of a man who wakes up in a Berlin hospital having lost his memory.

He is repatriated back to Britain once details of his past life emerge but he is later haunted by thoughts that it is not his life after all according to ateaseweb.com.

The play is set to be broadcasted this Friday at 9pm(GMT) on Radio 4.

Johnny Marr Receiving Honors From Academia

Former guitarist from The Smiths, Johnny Marr has been honored by two universities in as many weeks. Marr's first accolade came at a ceremony at Trinity College in Dublin where, after speaking onstage, he was made an Honorary Patron of the Trinity College Philosophical Society. The current guitarist in Modest Mouse, Marr's award in Dublin places him with the likes of Samuel Beckett, Bram Stoker, Oscar Wilde, Salman Rushdie and Al Pacino to the honor which rewards "individuals who have excelled in public life and made a worthy contribution to society".

Recently, Marr was made Professor Of Music at Salford University. An induction ceremony will be held tomorrow (October 17).

The Home Recordings Of River Cuomo

Rivers Cuomo has announced the release of an album of demos entitled Alone - The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo.

The album will feature home demos that Cuomo has recorded from 1992-2007. The album was originally meant to be released along with a book, Cuomo wrote. However, he later decided it would be best to release the album and book separately. According to Cuomo, "the book is now going to come out at a much later date - a year? Two years? Three years? I don't know. It's going to be very cool, though."

In a message Cuomo posted on his MySpace page yesterday (October 15), the singer said that the recordings would date from the earliest period of Weezer to the present day.

Cuomo said: "I've compiled a CD of my favorite demos from the years 1992 to 2007 and Geffen Records has agreed to put it out this December, on the eleventh. I hope you enjoy it. I may also be able to put out more demo CDs in the near future. Not to mention the Weezer developments, which are also extremely great."

Regarding the book, Rivers said "I'm digging what I've already got (nearly 400 pages) and I'm enjoying the process of writing and researching."

New American Music Club Album Slated For Early '08

San Francisco based American Music club have announced they will release The Golden Age in February 2008. The album is proceeded by 2004's Love Songs for Patriots(Merge), which broke the group's ten year hiatus.

AMC mainstays Mark Eitzel and Vudi team up with "the new guys" Sean Hoffman and Steve Didelot for this the 9th full length recording from American Music Club.

The overall sound is lighter than on previous AMC recordings. Of course there are many reasons why. 1) AMC refutes the label of 'Emo Pioneers'. For the record they hate Emo and have never been on the soundtrack for any W.B. network show. (yet) 2) Dark music is for people who are healthy enough to take it - and AMC want to appeal to all people - including the sick. 3) Mark Eitzel comments: "What will my neighbors in my retirement community think? How will I charm the nurse that tends to me? I want to fill my mouth with sugar and spit it on everyone when I talk. I want to cover the world with chocolate cake icing."

Mark (vocals) is a gay communist who once wrote an article: 'How Secure Will Your House Be During The Apocalypse'. Steve (drums) is a Christian activist who only plays in this band because the end times are upon us and what the fuck.

The Golden Age will be released on February 18 via Merge Records.

Kanye West has revealed he is working on a track with Michael Jackson, creating more speculation that Jackson will be releasing a new album in the near future, reports Yahoo.

Yesterday (October 10), Jacko sparked rumors that he would be announcing new material, after the singer wrote a letter to his European fans.

He said he would be "sharing exciting and surprising news with you from my other efforts."

West told London's The Sun: "I'm working on stuff for Michael Jackson. If I like a person's outlet or what a person brings to the table then I'll speak to them."

One Step Closer To A New Portishead Album

One of the more influential groups who have shaped modern music, Portishead has announced via their blog that they are mixing down recordings and a new album is on the horizon.

Geoff Barrow, producer/instrumentalist for the band explained:

"as to the new album , we met the label the other day which was good , i dont think we scared them too much..well mabey a little. going to london to have a listen in a proper studio soon but until then were just mixing the stumps ,stems.whatever. thinking about names, films looking really good".

About a week prior, the tone on the group's blog was a little different.

Animal Collective Seeking Out "The sound of the future"

Animal Collective envisioned their recently released Strawberry Jam as an alien landscape, reports Yahoo.

"We wanted to sound futuristic," says the group's electronic programmer Brian Weitz (Geologist).

Still, many cite the group as just plain ol' weird. The masks the group wore in early concerts — as well as their videos, pseudonyms and unconventional music - have contributed to a frequent label as such.

"I really don't like it," says drummer Noah Lennox (Panda Bear). "I feel like it's kind of a lazy thing to do, just write something off as weird. I feel like it sells it short."

Death Cab, Spoon, Bright Eyes On Darfur Charity Album

Various artists have donated songs for the Darfur Charity album put together by Waxploitation, a record label which champions humanitarian efforts.

Although estimates of the number of people killed by the conflict in Darfur vary widely from 200,000 to 400,000, what is certain is that more than 2 million people have fled their homes because of the fighting, and 4 million are now in need of humanitarian assistance-making this one of the worst crises in the world today.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to three non-profit organizations: Doctors Without Borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org), Human Rights Watch (www.hrw.org) and Oxfam America (www.oxfamamerica.org).

The album is said to include exclusive and rare tracks donated by Animal Collective, The Black Keys, Bloc Party, Bright Eyes, Cornelius, The Cure, David Sylvian, Death Cab for Cutie, (International) Noise Conspiracy, The Shins remixed by Clint Mansell, Spoon, Teargas & Plateglass, Thievery Corporation and Travis.

"We've made a conscious decision to create a sense of urgency - to mirror what is a dire situation in Darfur. It's not just a symbolic gesture," says Waxploitation's founder Jeff Antebi. "These non-profits need help there now," he explained.

Sting Named Worst Lyricist In Recent Poll

Apparently, when you name-drop Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov, people aren't impressed.

Police frontman Sting is the worst lyricist, according to Blender Magazine. The Police frontman made #1 thanks to lines that betray "mountainous pomposity (and) cloying spirituality," the music magazine said.

Besides the Russian novelist name- dropping, the Police frontman was blasted for other such faux pauxs as the tune "Don't Stand So Close to Me," quoting a Volvo bumper sticker ("If You Love Someone Set Them Free"), and co-opting the works of Chaucer, St. Augustine and Shakespeare.

The survey, contained in the November issue that hits newsstands next week, placed Rush drummer Neil Peart at No. 2, Creed frontman Scott Stapp at No. 3, Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher at No. 4, and soft-rocker Dan Fogelberg at No. 5.

Blender described Canadian rocker Peart's lyrics as "richly awful tapestries of fantasy and science," and said Gallagher "seemed incapable of following a metaphor through a single line, let alone a whole verse."

Further down the ranks, Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant (No. 23) was derided for his Tolkienesque musings on Gollum and Mordor in "Ramble On."

Carly Simon (No. 31) was mocked for rhyming "yacht," "apricot" and "gavotte" in "You're So Vain."

Paul McCartney made No. 38, thanks in part to "Ebony and Ivory," his socially conscious duet with Stevie Wonder.

Lily Allen explained she might get own TV show on her Myspace blog.

"I'm having meetings about a potential TV show," she explained, before adding that she is considering a different musical direction on her second album.

"I spent the past couple of weeks in a twee little cottage in the Cotwolds starting on the next album, and it's gone so well, I'm just over the moon at the moment," she declared. "I feel like I'm on Prozac or something."

She added: "I won't say much, but it's a different musical direction and really quite exciting. Everything just seems to be falling into place... I'm doing Fashion Rocks in a couple of weeks which should be quite exciting and then going back into the studio to finish off the album."

Debbie Harry Discusses Upcoming Solo Album ; First In 14 Years

The anticipation for legendary Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry's new album has been growing, for nearly 14 years. Her last being 1993's Debravation(Sire Records/Reprise Records).

In the last year, Harry has promoting her new album Necessary Evil(Eleven Seven) in familiar and unfamiliar channels alike: on Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Tour 2007, she performed a number of songs from the album, the first single "Two Times Blue", was released on iTunes June 6, 2007 and on the eve of the October 9 US release date, Harry gave detailed information on the work in an interview with NME. The following are excerpts:

"I enjoyed working with Super Buddha very much -- they're competent, multitalented and they aren't about strictly doing things their way," Harry said of her producers.

Harry explained that she began formulating ideas for new material during breaks from her busy Blondie schedule about a year and a half ago.

"I started working on ideas and coming up with a bunch of songs in my spare time when I wasn't touring with Blondie," Harry said. "I just had one of those crazy moments when making a record seemed like a good idea.

"I ended up writing a bunch of songs about relationships and love in all different degrees of seriousness," she added. "The songwriting process is actually easier for me after doing so many albums."

Harry said that she's planning a solo tour of the US in support of the album this autumn, which will most likely kick off in November.

A film festival celebrating the shadowy life and time of Nick Drake will be held this weekend in Los Angeles.

Nick Drake was enigmatic, self-taught, English singer-songwriter who failed to gain mainstream success in life and died tragicly at 26. Posthumous, his star has grown from the time of his dead in 1974 of an overdose of antidepressants in his parents home.

The American Cinemateque is presenting 'A Place To Be -- A Celebration of Nick Drake'. It includes the Los Angeles premiere of 'A Skin Too Few', a documentary about the singer's life with contributions from Drake's sister, Gabrielle, as well as his string arranger and friend Robert Kirby, and Paul Weller.

It will also include the world premiere of short film homages to the singer titled 'Their Place: Reflections On Nick Drake', created by fans including actor Heath Ledger.

It's apparent that the fan base for the Spice Girls is still active and participating. The British pop vixen's comeback gig sold out in a mere 38 seconds, after fans who registered for tickets online were notified they had gone on sale, reports Yahoo.

More than one million people in the U.K. pre-registered for the concert, which takes place on December 15 at London's O2 Arena.

Ticketmaster boss Chris Edmonds said: "It was a dramatic moment--the sales went live and there was a huge surge as fans bombarded the lines."

The last time the full spice rack performed together onstage was nearly ten years ago. The group is said to be as cohesive as ever after their tumultuous break-up whereas Ginger Spice, Geri Halliwell, quit in May 1998.

Ozzy Osbourne’s brother-in-law has said that his sister – Sharon Osbourne – is driving her husband to death, reports gigwise.com.

David Arden, Sharon Osbourne brother, claims that the rocker’s punishing schedule – which he claims may include a Black Sabbath tour - is being controlled by his sister and that "she will keep Ozzy on the road until, like Tommy Cooper, he dies on stage."

Radiohead Countdown Site Exposed As A Hoax

A spokesperson for Radiohead told NME that the site claiming to be counting down to information about the group's new album is a hoax.

The site (http://radioheadlp7.com/) was previously showing a countdown that would end tomorrow morning (September 29) at 8am. Recently, after being exposed, the site has exchanged the countdown for a simple message which says "THE MOST GIGANTIC LYING HOAX OF ALL TIME."

Many fans initially sniffed out the fishiness of the site, suggesting it might actually be a means to trick fans into "giving away passwords".

Although, as previously reported the group is offering puzzles concerning clues about the new album.

What is clear is that it will be the group's seventh studio album and is to be released sometime in 2008. The band worked on it for over two years, beginning in early 2005 which makes it the longest duration of time between albums (Hail to the Thief was released in 2003) Radiohead have had since they began their career.

New Developments In Notorious B.I.G. Murder Case ; Lies Exposed

Waymond Anderson, an inmate at California's Corcoran state prison and a key witness in the ongoing investigation into the 1997 slaying of the Notorious B.I.G., has given a deposition rescinding earlier testimony implicating two Los Angeles police officers in the slaying.

Anderson, a former R&B singer serving time for a separate murder case, now insists his lies were part of a larger scam to cash in on a wrongful-death settlement from the city.

"It was a lie and I'm ashamed of it," Anderson said in his Aug. 20 deposition. "I did what I had to do to survive."

Ulver's Black Metal Past "Haunts" Them ; New Album

In the 1990's, the Norwegian band Ulver was considered to be one of the most extreme black metal groups. These days the group's sound is explained as a "low-key, dark and tragic" one and with the upcoming release of their seventh studio album Shadows of the Sun (Jester) it's apparent the band has come a long way from their angst filled black metal days.

Still, the group is commonly dubbed black metal and lumped in with groups they sound nothing alike. Group leader, Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg explains "history haunts us and there's nothing you can do."

The following are excerpts from a recent interview with Rygg, conducted for Pitchfork.

Pitchfork: You're still occasionally associated with black metal, though your sound's been shifting incrementally, and now significantly, since 1992. Does the association bug you? Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg: It bugged me more before, around 2000. At that point where we were very set on drawing sharp lines and distinguishing between things, people, places. I also believed there was such a thing as new beginnings. But history haunts us and there's nothing you can do. I accept that, even though I still find it curious, of course, that two out of 15 releases are regarded, or included to such an extent. But hell, I guess it means you're are pretty lucky when you have fans who love both your first and your last effort spanning fifteen years. That's pretty rare, especially considering the inconsistent nature of our body of work. I also realize that if it hadn't been for our initial "success" as a black metal band, there's a good chance nobody would know we exist. Or care. Sometimes I'm not sure what I'd prefer.

Pitchfork: I'm interested in how you progressed from your early days to your current sound. What sort of aesthetic did you pull from for "Shadows of the Sun"? Chamber music, but what else? What contemporary metal and non-metal groups do you enjoy? I hear church music — even the BEACH BOYS. I hear you studied classical composers for it. How did you decide to use electronics/piano, et al? Of course, there are still moments of dissonance and feedback, but you largely break from standard "rock" instruments. There's this general soft white noise sounds filtering throughout — and horns. Kristoffer "Garm" Rygg: There's no specific aesthetic other than a sense of the beautiful itself, I suppose. There's a connection to classical composition, that's pretty obvious. Some Wagner transpositions. Some Schumann warped beyond recognition etc. in there. "Funebre" is largely based on one single bar off Wagner and we have that little Chopin signature thrown in there as well. So yeah, even though we use fewer notes, the classical stamp is all over the record. BEACH BOYS? It's probably the vocal thing, that I am so fond of clean-sung, layered, well-produced vocals and harmonies. That's another rarity these days. I wonder, where did all the sunshine pop go?

Winehouse Joins Prince For Final London Show

Amy Winehouse surprised audience members as Prince's special guest for the final date of his landmark London residency on Friday (September 21), according to reports.

The controversial U.K. soul diva took to the stage at the concert's aftershow party, in the O2's Indigo venue, alongside Beverley Knight.

As previously reported, Sir Elton John joined Prince unannounced at the start of the encore of a previous show. The duo performed a cover of The Beatles’ The Long and Winding Road, with Elton singing accompanied by Prince on guitar.

The Winehouse appearance brings to an end Prince's 21 date run in London’s O2 arena.

In other news, The Black Dahlia Murder's vocalist Trevor Strnad told MTV.com in January that their upcoming Nocturnal will be "definitely in the same vein as our older stuff. Nothing drastically changed. It's just more tasteful, and some of this new stuff will be faster than the last record. . . There's going to be a lot more soloing than we've done previously. This record's a bit more European-sounding, I think. More so than we already were, if you can imagine that. The solo stuff has a black metal-ish flavor to it. We messed around with that a little bit previously, but some of the songs have a major Dissection(metal band) kind of feel to them."

Nocturnal, was released on Tuesday (September 18) via Metal Blade Records.

Also, The Black Dahlia Murder will team up with Job For a Cowboy and The Red Chord for a European tour in November/December 2007.

Eddie Vedder To Go On (small gigs) Tour?

There are rumors that Pearl Jam frontman will go on tour to play "small gigs" to support his work on the soundtrack of the film "Into The Wild".

As previous reported, Eddie Vedder contributed a few songs for the soundtrack. The film, directed by Sean Penn, is based on a book recounting the true story of Chris McCandless.

(SPOILER WARNING)McCandless cut ties with his family, gave all his money to charity and set out to live in the Alaskan wilderness, only to be found dead two years later.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Vedder said that he's warming up to the thought of playing some intimate gigs, explaining, "If you surf 50-foot waves all the time, you can't try too many new things, because 50-foot waves are kind of life and death. Playing big shows is like that. So you want to take on some smaller waves to rework or refine what you do, and then take it back to the big surf."

Vedder also assured fans that his first solo excursion did not mean the end of Pearl Jam, noting that everyone else in the band has also done records on their own. Vedder said, "I was the holdout. We've been a group for a long time, and we will continue to be so, I hope, for a really long time."

Double Awards Win For Winehouse ; Mobo/Vodafone Wrap Up

Amy Winehouse collected her trophy at the Mobo (Music of Black Origin) Awards at the O2 arena while the singer had to sent the landlord of her local pub to accept her prize at the Vodafone Live Music Awards at Earls Court.

Winehouse, who performed "Tears Dry On Their Own" plus "Me And Mr Jones" from her smash hit album Black To Black at the awards ceremony. The 24 year old reportedly looked surprised when her name was announced as winner of top female artist.

Other Mobos winners include rapper Dizzee Rascal as best male act, while Kanye West and Ne-Yo each won two awards.

Meanwhile,

Over at the Vodafone Awards, Mika was named best male artist. Sting and Andy Summers The Police had the best live return, according to the Vodafone Awards Kylie Minogue's Showgirl tour was judged to have been the best production of the year, and The Gossip collected an award for having the most impact.

LCD Soundsystem have released a new video for their single, "Someone Great" to be released October 22, 2007 in the UK.

The song will be the third single off their critically-acclaimed second album Sound of Silver, which was released in late March of this year.

Troubled soul diva Amy Winehouse has had her spirits lifted for her in the shape of a song written for her by Pete Doherty, reports Yahoo.

The song is reportedly called "Amy On The Mend" and was sent to her in a frame signed "Love, Pete," in time for her 24th birthday.

The Babyshambles frontman shares in the unique predicament with Winehouse of, both have gone through numerous attempts to get off drugs and walk the razor edge of being young wealthy and addicted.

According to London's Daily Star, the song contains the line: "Amy on the mend, all that passion to spend/Like a paper Boadicea in a battle to the end, end, end."

Grohl later added, "Paris is f--king lame."

Grohl and Hilton reportedly fell out after meeting in a restaurant years ago, when the singer claims the millionaire heiress put on "the full princess attitude with the nose in the air."

Consequently, he concluded: "I pray that my daughter will not turn out like her."

The former Nirvana drummer - who has publicly feuded with Kurt Cobain's widow in the past, even previously calling her an "ugly fing bh" live on stage - insists there is no one else he detests more.

Grohl said: "There are a lot of people that I've been angry with in my life, but the one that's most noted in Courtney. So it's pretty obvious to me that those correlations are going to pop up every now and again. I still remain little secretive about it all."

Sir Elton Joins Prince On-Stage In London

Much to the delight of fans, Prince was joined onstage by Sir Elton John at the latest of his 21 dates in London's O2 arena.

Earlier in the show, Sir Elton had drawn cheers and applause when the venue's video screens pictured him in the audience. Later, the singer appeared unannounced at the start of the encore to sing a cover of The Beatles' The Long and Winding Road, accompanied by Prince on guitar.

One concertgoer said "Sir Elton has performed onstage with many of the top stars of the past three decades, including Eminem and George Michael, but this was still a surprise - albeit one which was much appreciated by the crowd."

Prince's 21-date residency at the O2 draws to a close next week.

The JAM Awards To Highlight Positive Aspects In Hip-Hop

Former Run-DMC star Darryl McDaniels has created an award show to challenge negative perceptions of hip-hop.

"We're putting the focus back on the positive creative influence of the culture," said McDaniels, aka DMC.

Hip-hop super-stars De La Soul and Snoop Dogg will perform at the ceremony in New York on 29 November. Although the inclusion of Snoop, who is considered by many to be a gangster rapper was at first called into question for the event which hypes itself as a positive event. McDaniels defended the rapper, explaining the inclusion of Snoop Dogg on the bill did not detract from the awards' message.

"It's OK to make a record about a gun, but if you make a record about a gun, you gotta make a record about not using a gun," he said.

"It's not about censorship. You can rap and talk about whatever you want. This is about responsibility."

The awards will also honor Run-DMC DJ Jam Master Jay, who was killed in his recording studio in 2002.

McDaniel's is set to co-host the show with the rap pioneer's widow, Terri Corley-Mizell.

Perry Farrell Speaks Out on AT&T Censorship Of Pearl Jam

Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell told The Pulse of Radio that it was wrong for AT&T to censor Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder's anti-Bush lyrics during the company's web cast of the band's performance at last month's festival in Chicago. But Farrell also said that he wouldn't hold AT&T fully responsible and would be open to having the corporation involved in Lollapalooza again.

While performing “Daughter” during the annual Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, the band segued into a portion of Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall,” during which frontman Eddie Vedder sang, “George Bush, leave this world alone” and “George Bush, find yourself another home.” Those lyrics were missing from the broadcast.

"They did not have consent from Lollapalooza to censor," he said. "It was an overzealous censor. They should not have done that, but it was one man who made a decision at that moment. Now as far as next year, do we plan on not working with AT&T? I wouldn't exactly, as I say, look at AT&T as the devil. It was one person. Would I work with that person again? Not without speaking to them and saying you can't do those kinds of things."

Los Angeles based rocker group Year Long Disaster have recently announced a flurry of shows across the us to kick off next week(Sept. 15).

The group features Daniel Davies (the son of Dave Davies from The Kinks) on vocals/guitar, Rich Mullins (bass player for past metal incarnations Karma to Burn and REO Speedealer) and Brad Hargreaves (the drummer for Third Eye Blind).

Since they banded together two years ago, YLD have hit the pavement hard playing over 400 shows.

Fired Van Halen Bassist: 'I Found Out On The Internet'

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, ex Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony said he was handled in a dirty way. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

RollingStone.com: When was the last time you saw Eddie Van Halen?

Michael: "The last time I actually spoke or saw him in person was right after we walked offstage in 2004, the last show of the tour."

RollingStone.com: How were things then?

Michael: "It really didn't end in total peace and harmony within the band, for whatever reasons. I'm not going to finger-point at anyone, but the tour, after eighty shows, just couldn't go on at that point."

RollingStone.com: How did you find out they were going to do this upcoming tour without you?

Michael: "Probably like everybody else, I found out on the Internet and through word of mouth. I can understand that he wants his kid to play with him. If I had a kid like that, I'd like to have him perform with me, too. It was kind of funny when I first heard about it being a VAN HALEN 'reunion.'"

RollingStone.com: So they never called you?

Michael: "No, nobody ever contacted me about anything. I just kind of found out with everyone else."

RollingStone.com: Is it true they tried to keep you off the 2004 tour? Michael: "Yeah. Ed didn't really want me on that tour."

RollingStone.com: Do you know why?

Michael: "He was always put off that I was going out and playing with Sammy [Hagar] when we weren't doing anything. It wasn't like I was doing it to spite anybody. I was just tired of sitting at home and doing nothing. Sammy asked me one day if I would like to come out and maybe make an appearance at one or two of [his] shows and have some fun, and I said, 'Yeah, great.' It kind of snowballed into me coming out and doing a few songs with him here and there."

Pete Seeger Lashes Out Against Stalin

Pete Seeger has written a song about Joesph Stalin entitled "The Big Joe Blues," reports Yahoo.

"I'm singing about old Joe, cruel Joe. He ruled with an iron hand. He put an end to the dreams of so many in every land." says Seeger, who originally left the the Communist Party sometime around 1950.

The 88-year-old banjo-picker said he apologized years ago for not recognizing that Josef Stalin was a "very cruel misleader." But he told The Associated Press on Friday that the song he finally finished this year is a first for him, despite three visits to the Soviet Union beginning in the '60s.

"It's the first overt song about the Soviet Union," Seeger said during a phone interview from his Hudson Valley home in Beacon. "I think I should have though, when I was in the Soviet Union — I should have asked, `Can I see one of the old gulags?'"

Seeger calls it a yodeling blues song, and sings the chorus so it sounds like "I got the Big Joe Bloo-ew-ew-ews!" He said it's the sort of song his old buddy Woody Guthrie might have written in the '50s.

The song's existence also touches on a sensitive political issue: the view by critics on the right that the left recognized Stalin's tyranny only belatedly. Partial lyrics were cited Friday by author Ron Radosh in a New York Sun column.

Radosh, an adjunct senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, a conservative think tank, accused Seeger in the newspaper two months ago of failing to criticize the communist regimes he once backed.

Radosh took banjo lessons from Seeger in the '50s — two dollars for three hours — though Radosh took a very different political path from his childhood hero.

In a follow-up column Friday, Radosh said he was tickled to receive a warm letter last week from his old idol with a copy of the song attached. He provided a copy of the song to the AP on Friday, and said he still admires Seeger.

"I think he is a man of principle," Radosh said. "He's often wrong."

Seeger said he hopes to publish the song in the folk magazine "Sing Out."

"I get the whole crowd singing on it," Seeger said. "I've never failed to get an audience singing, whether they're 8 years old or 80 years old."

Scream, one of Norway's most popular metal magazines will officially be trying it's hand at the annual festival scene with their upcoming 1st annual Screamfest.

The organization is still booking bands for the event. Purportedly, five more acts will be added to the list below within "the next couple of weeks" some sources say.

Special Showing Of Bowie/Zepplin Documentaries

Led Zeppelin, The Who, Jimi Hendrix and David Bowie appear in documentaries that are screening this weekend during 'Rock Doc: A Celebration of Rock Documentaries' in Los Angeles, reports NME.

Tonight's (August 31) double-feature includes D.A. Pennebaker's 1973 documentary 'Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars', which chronicles Bowie's final concert on the legendary Ziggy Stardust tour, and 1970's 'Led Zeppelin Live at the Royal Albert Hall'.

Tomorrow (September 1) features director Michael Wadleigh's cut of the Oscar-winning 'Woodstock', featuring The Who, Hendrix and Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Also screening tomorrow is a newly restored version of Pennebaker's 'Monterey Pop', with performances from Janis Joplin, Hendrix and The Who.

New Grateful Dead Devoted Satellite Radio Station

Sirius Satellite radio has announced a new all Grateful Dead all the time station to be launched on September 7.

The programming, which will cover the group's 30-year career, will kick off with a special broadcast of a rare 1974 performance at the Hollywood Bowl and will continue with a show hosted by Dead guitarist Bob Weir, the company announced on Wednesday.

Original programming contributed by bassist Phil Lesh and drummers Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann is also planned.

"This is gonna be one fun channel," Weir said in a statement. "We, the guys in the band, get to be involved as much as we can, and we'll make sure it's fun. We want the fans to be involved as well."
