Music of World War II
Posted almost 5 years ago

This 2 CD set of popular music brought smiles, memories, and an urge to dance among the residents of a long term care facility who had lived through the 1930's and World War II. One lady remembered her stint as an overhead crane operator, another following her soldier husband from Hawaii to Milwaukee, still another serving at a wartime canteen. Disk One begins with Bing Crosby singing "Now Is The Hour," winds through "It Had To Be You," "Always," "Auf Wiedersehn Sweetheart," "Seems Like Old Times," and winds up with "That Old Black Magic." Disk Two is started off by Artie Shaw performing "Dancing In The Dark," followed by "Marie," "My Buddy," "Lili Marlene," "My Prayer," "La Vie En Rose," "Harbor Lights," and finishes with "(There'll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover." Loading up the simple multiple disk CD player with these and other old time music CDs made dinner hour more interesting than leaving it to the staff to park the FM tuner on a Pop/Rock station. It certainly was better to "Give Me Five Minutes More" than, say, Eminem.
