IZ: That rascal, who left quite a legacy
-
Artist:
-
Album:"Ka 'Ano'i"
-
Track:"Margarita"
For those who know IZ only from "Over The Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" on the "Facing Future" CD release, that's only part of the story. A surviving twin (Skippy Kamakawiwo'ole was the other heavyweight musical talent) who helped establish The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, he left that group for the single artist life and put on some Hawaiian Rock shoes. (The Makaha Sons play/compose Hawaiian music.) Take "Margarita," a story/song about a beer serving Tahitian beauty written by a smitten would-be lover. (There are more interesting lyrics to this song; this is the G-rated version.) Love songs abound on this release from "Kainoa" to "I'll Be There/Warren's Song." Just for fun, surfers get "Men Who Ride Mountains"; in later CD releases, IZ wrote about the Demi God Maui, and Sumo wrestlers ("Tengoku Kaminari"). Then there's a jaunty courtship song, "Hene Kou 'Aka," and "Hi'ilawe." That's the IZ found in the music videos, and with The Hawaiian Style Band ("Living In a Sovereign Land").
