THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

A little surprise

Posted about 1 year ago
A long while back, I was listening to Alison Krauss' "Now That I've Found You: A Collection" when John, Paul, George and Ringo popped up. I've heard many versions of this tune, but this one is as interesting as Eva Cassidy's version of "Imagine." (By the way, I've never been much of a Beatles fan.)

  2. mmars says Ah yes. The banjo - a real American instrument! So much cool stuff being done with it today. I just think it is the 2000s breakout rock instrument. And Eva Cassidy, such a gem. Another cool tune on her "Imagine" album - Fever - bongo, violin, vibes & Eva. Another true talent who left us early and unknown. Thanks

  3. dermahrk says You may not be a Beatles fan, but how could you have a pulse and not respond to one of McCartney's greatest pop compositions of all time? Of course, I love Alison too, even if she is whoring around with Percy these days.

  4. deadmandeadman says mmars, the Banjo's fortunes have waxed and waned throughtout our history. Too many associate it with music they consider "hayseed" or "hillbilly" music. They've never met Bela Fleck. As for McC's infectious little pop confection, it doesn't offend. As you demonstrate with your post, when the song's +done well+, its pretty good.

  5. Bartleby says I must say the banjo works pretty well on this rendition. A lovely cover. (I too am a Beatles fan)
