WE DO THE MASHED POTATO AND THE FUNKY CHICKEN

One Mynah bird in one Papaya tree

Posted about 1 year ago
The official version of this song was composed in 1959, over a meal of Chinese food. Hawaii elementary school students learn this version of "The 12 Days of Christmas":1)One Mynah bird in one Papaya tree.2)Coconuts3)Dried Squid4)Flower Lei5)Big fat pigs6)Hula lesson7)Shrimp a-swimming8)'Ukulele9)Pounds of Poi10)Cans of beer11)Missionary12)TelevisionThere are variations, but this array of edible foods and culture is more affordable. (I've never seen a Mynah bird in or on a Papaya tree. The leaves break off too easily, and the grower would be reaching for a stick to scare that bottomless pit of a fruit-eater away!)

  2. Bartleby says I didn't know television was edible. You can clearly eat a missionary though some might prefer his position but a TV set. I'd like to see these kids try.

  3. Wahiawa786 says In 1959, television sets were luxury items, so having more than one of them was a big thing. Could one eat a TV? Back then, you could trade one for something less toothsome than vacuum tubes, circuit boards, and lead solder. These days, with cheap/disposable electronic equipment that costs more to repair than replace, television sets are tossed into the landfill...or donate them to the local community college or technical school for Frankesteinian experiments!
