Back Up Your Computer's HDD!

Nope, that's someone else replacing the 4GB stock HDD on his Apple PowerBook "Pismo." I put a 60GB unit shortly before I also upgraded to 640MB RAM to get this Y2K computer Internet-ready. However, as the song goes, I do have a character flaw. I didn't back up the portable computer's HDD! (Recently, that is.) So while the 1.5GHz G4 "AlBook" sits in the repair shop, I'm chugging along in the slow lane, under Mac OSX 10.4.11, on a 500MHz G3 that "won't do Leopard/Mac OSX 10.5.x" (I did back up the Pismo's HDD as soon as the "AlBook" refused to start up.) There's nothing critically important on the portable, but reconstructing an InDesign file or two and reripping music CDs will take some time. So...Back Up Your Computer! Today. Now before a power outage/voltage spike/errant can of soda/dropped glass of spirits makes your computer into a doorstop. You Have Been Warned.

"The logic board has to be replaced," is what the tech at Mac Mouse had to say about the AlBook. I'm not ready to upgrade to an Intel Mac portable just yet, so repairs will include a RAM upgrade to cure the "spinning beachball" not-enough-RAM syndrome. On to Mac OSX 10.5.x?
