Hail to the Busdriver

My first musical obsession of 2007 has been confirmed.
One of my resolutions for the year is to actually listen to the mp3s that are offered by the music websites that I frequent and this week I finally started to make good on it. While cruising Pitchfork I encountered an article on Busdriver, an "alternative" hip-hop artist out of Los Angeles (yes, them again) whose sixth record _RoadkillOvercoat_ will drop this Tuesday. I checked the accompanying mp3 of "Less Yes's, More No's"...and it's been love ever since. (The man name checks Noam Chomsky, for heaven's sake- how could I resist?) It is such a gift to hear something that manages to be fresh without being completely ridiculous and over the top (can ya hear me, Of Montreal?), and it's doubly so when it comes to hip-hop which being written off more and more these days. The entire record is available for preview on "Myspace":http://www.myspace.com/busdriver, but here are some mp3s for your downloading pleasure."Less Yes's, More No's":http://downloads.pitchforkmedia.com/~files/busdriver-lessyesmoreno.mp3"Kill Your Employer":http://www.spectremusic.com/_music/busdriver/killyouremployer.mp3"Sun Shower":http://marathonpacks.com/Files/Sun%20Shower.mp3"The Troglodyte Wins":http://www.irockcleveland.com/tunes/TheTrogladyteWins.mp3Despite his established catalog, Busdriver (nee Regan Farquhar) has yet to garner significant attention outside of underground circles, despite having such formidable musical allies as fellow underground artists Daedelus and Daddy Kev. Is massive stardom going to come his way once this new record is out?...I'm going to safely say "no"; sadly, the music is too good to merit mass consumption.
