It's official, kids; I now worship at the altar of Mike Patton.
About a year ago my sisterfriend VJ became obsessed with Tomahawk, and it was then that I began to hear Patton's praises sung. I sampled one of the band's tunes and, though I found the song listenable, I steered clear; I like hard stuff, but there was just not enough melody in it for me.Last winter, said friend and I were in a CD store together and she picked up the Fantomas' _Suspended Animation_; based on the cover art alone, I knew there was going to be a problem. Upon our departure we played the damn thing, and my suspicions were confirmed- there were screams and ringing alarms and what sounded like saws. My friend is going bananas over what she's hearing, but I just couldn't wrap my mind around it. I had a reaction similar to the one I usually have to Tool, like maybe if I had 30 more IQ points I could really appreciate what was going on.At last, I heard Patton speak my language. Last weekend, I randomly decided to preview some Peeping Tom tracks and it's been bliss ever since. He states this record is his version of pop music, so I guess this was my best shot of ever being sucked into the Ipecac vortex. (And it worked. Yes it did.)Nine of the album's eleven tracks are still available for preview only (no downloads) at www.myspace.com/peepingtomispatton; get 'em while they're hot.I know some of my trusted MOGS did not dig this record at all. Let's have a chat, shall we?...
