Sushi Cocteau - In the Raw

Posted over 3 years ago
So the Cocteau Twins are one of my favorite groups and a true inspiration for me when it comes to writing, but having gotten into them far too late, I never had occasion to see them play. I found this video clip of them playing on some TV show and it reminded me of the glaring differance of playing in a studio and playing live. I would never exactly catagorise the Twins as a "rocking" band, but when you hear them in a less polished form then their albums provide you get an idea of what the other side of their sound was. It almost forces me into a deep lament of Robin Guthries sense of studio aesthetics. I adore the polished and dreamy sound of the Twins recordings, but it would have been nice to have gotten something, at some point in their later career (after they quit all the drugs) that showcased their strength as a band, and not just their individual talents in the controlled studio setting. Well, what is- is, I guess. Another ship that has long since sailed on into that good night.
