MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Artist:
Track: Ray of Light

In one of the strangest covers I've ever seen in my life, The Stooges covered Madonna's 1998 hit "Ray of Light" at the Rock Hall ceremonies. True, Iggy Pop and Madonna are both Michigan natives. And true, Stooges bassist Mike Watt has done session work with Kelly Clarkson, so it's not like there's no precedent. But that doesn't discount the weirdness (pun absolutely intended) of this video:

Throughout it all, I found myself looking for a surprise cameo by the Sonic Youth offshoot Ciccone Youth. They're probably the closest musical link between the two artists, having produced both the best known cover of "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and a song who's chorus is the repeated line "We're Ciccone!" Still, I guess I can't be greedy with my bizarre juxtapositions.
