SUTC: My my, here come the fuzz

Posted over 2 years ago

So of all the movies to have come out this decade, few have consistently engrossed me like Hot Fuzz. I have seen this movie at least over 10 times, and it hasn't grown old in the slightest. I like it more than I like Repo Man, Big Lebowski, Evil Dead 2 (or Shaun of the Dead), or just about any similarly rock-fueled cult classics.

It is also why, no matter what shenanigans they may get into later, I will always have a place in my heart for The Fratellis. Their version of "Solid Gold Easy Action," played over the credits, out-Bolan's Marc Bolan's original version in all its glam rock glory, all without losing any of its bluesy roots.

Do you crusty jugglers want to hear it? Yarrrp.

Still have a special candle in my heart for Marc's version, but yeah!

Have you seen the TV series, Spaced that Simon Pegg really started in?

No, for me he appeared fully formed in shaun of the Dead. It's a tossup which is funnier - that or Hot Fuzz. More assurance in the latter. Really on the edge jokes in the former.

Neill; have been meaning to see Spaced for some time. From what I hear it's like if the Big Bang Theory didn't suck.

Jonh: I love Shaun of the Dead, but like most zombie movies, it's caught in between being funny and scary. Hot Fuzz is more or less flawless--the visual metaphor of church impalement may be the most impressive thing in any movie I've seen all decade.

Watched him last night in How To Lose Friends.... As usual he was flawless, with a physicality that is up there with the great silent comedians. But it was a case of him and Kirsten Dunst trying valiantly against a mediocre script and I bailed out after 40 minutes and lots of fast-forwarding.
