Times New Viking: First Breakthrough Band of 2008?

If you're looking for a band to shake the music world in 2008, Times New Viking may be that band. My full review of their first Matador album, Rip it Off, will appear in the Maroon on Tuesday, but to tease you with the first paragraph, I make the bold prediction that "By the end of 2008, Times New Viking will either start a revolution or be laughed off as a novelty band. Which result we choose will predict a lot about our Post-Bush American music scene."This could be the death of bland indie rock as we know it, and don't be suprised if a new Zeitgeist hits. Pitchfork gave their last album an 8.2, and that was probably an understatement at the time, as now-Idolator scribe Jess Harval makes sure to note she "fucking loves TNV." Don't be suprised if this album gets a 9.0+ rating from Pitchfork, and even greater praise from mainstream and indie press alike. If this band gets shot down, it would be a sad, sad day for all of us.
