Oasis --> worst band ever??

Posted about 1 year ago
I recently agreed to learn 5 or 6 songs off of Oasis's greatest hits for my buddy Bob, and teach them to him on guitar. Even though they are not all that hard, I found myself lost in this obnoxiously annoying voice. I listened to them as a young teen, but now I have no clue what I was ever thinking. Probably the drugs (one's like LSD and ECSTACY). So my questions to my MOG-MATE'S:1. Would you agree that Oasis is horribly repetitive, lame, annoying, and lacking in impressive talent, and overall one of the, if not the #1, worst main-stream bands of all time????2. How would you let your friend know that you hate Oasis, when it is their #1 favorite band?? So in spirit, I had to post the one song on their greatest hits that I can tolerate, and it's only because the music doesn't sound like the rest of their junk, the voice is still criminal to my ear canal, but the music is ok. Please let me know what bands, if not Oasis, are your least favorite and most hated artist's. I am Tyler Durden, and I heartily approve this message.

  1. etothemcg says 1. i actually like oasis. my least favorite mainstream band is currently hinder for two reasons: they think they are the resurrection of "rock" music despite the fact that they sound pretty much like a lot of other bands and they are generally annoying people. 2. just tell them. i've told many friends that i don't like the same bands as them and vice versa. if we all liked the same music this site wouldn't even exist. and i would be extremely bored if everyone had the same musical taste as me :)

  2. TylerDurden says ETOTHEMCG -> you sounded reluctant to admit that. just kidding, I can't really hear your tone. Ballyhoo, you are a stronger person than I. and yeah, I've told him he has an odd taste in music, but only odd to my twisted perspective, you follow me? So, I'm just gonna have to restate my distaste for the band. You can't count me all bad, I did own their Morning Glory album for like 2 years, but cringe at the thought that I may have been just trying to fit in with a girlfriend at the time, and on drugs! Cheers, and thanks for stopping by!

  3. etothemcg says it's cool that you don't like oasis. i wasn't trying to say you should like them (sorry if it came off like that) i'm just a big proponent of liking who you like and disliking who you dislike, and not caring if other moggers laugh at you for it :) especially when it comes to the dispute between mainstream and indie music :)

  4. vannatta says Yes and YES! is the short answer, but more to wit: Yes to number one, and even more to the point - they are derivative - and so I agree with etothemcg's comment in #1 above. And YES! to number two. Broheim - you know that you have to tell the truth no matter what, even if it hurts (a little bit) - your boy will get over it eventually. Also agree with the-e-to-the MCG! (not that you were disagreeing... ;) - that if we all had the same tastes, we wouldn't be on MOG trying to check out new music... if we already all liked the same stuff, we'd never hear anything new that we could dig as well (or hate or whatever - not even care about...) They are very derivative, but the common denominator is clear, and Lennon/McCartney need to get royalties on _all of the Oasis output. Which also means, I'm sure, that the stuff is _really fun to play (on some level) ... no? Van

  5. Groon says Would you agree that Oasis is horribly repetitive, lame, annoying, and lacking in impressive talent, and overall one of the, if not the #1, worst main-stream bands of all time Yes. Whole heartedly. Without a doubt. As for #2, I agree with the above: just tell 'em. But, you know, be nice about it!

  6. TylerDurden says ETOTHEMCG -> You're cool, no need to apologize. I actually feel better about myself when someone else laughs at me for something I believe in! And Hinder -> WHOAH, is he trying to be Steven Tyler or something? can't stand the dude. VAN -> Are you answering yes to my # 1? meaning that you dislike oasis with wholeheartedness, or am I reading you wrong? Paul and John are definetely the reason Oasis made it, they were HUGE if I remember, everyone loved the two european brothers and their Beatles-like sing-a-longs. Groon -> thanks. dig the fro avatar by the way! I was planning on telling my buddy by breaking into his place late at night while he sleeps and getting all his Oasis cd's, ripping his Oasis posters off the wall, and getting all his clothes that look like the stuff the Oasis Duo wears, and pile it up outside, pour kerosene all over it and then rig up an intricate wake up horn outside, then when he comes running outside to see what all the commotion is, he will trigger an electrical current when opening his door, and send it through some copper wiring directly to his sacred, Kerosene soaked sacrifice that he himself ignited HAHAHAHA -> (that was audible laughter by the way, everyone at the office looked at me like I was crazy) -> NAH, I'll just tell him he's got a different music taste than some of us! but that would be way cool if I did the first thing!!

  7. dansemcabre says Hmm yes oasis is annoying but mostly because of the constant radioplay. other than that I never listen to them. I can play wonder wall because my ex liked it when I did and it was a good song to bust out next to a campfire when there were lots of ladies present. Now for my worst band ever I fucking hate this band their sound their lyrics and every thing they stand for. The masks are kinda cool tho. I Hate with purple passion and rattle snake venom I hate slipknot. it's all just noise nasty loud irritateing noise. I'd rather listen to chainsaws and angle grinders operateing inside a big empty warehouse than listen to slipknot. I hate ICP too!

  8. Groon says RE: Slipknot, ICP and other bands of that ilk. With the exception of Gwar for reasons I cannot explain, I am of the opinion that any band that feels the need to don masks and make up in an effort to be "sinister" or "extreme" or whatever, is nothing more than crap musicians making crap music, and trying to cover up that fact with some sort of shock value. So in short, I agree with you. Tyler: You could do it that way, too, but it seems a little messier. And try not to let the "straights" in the office on to your secret plans!

  10. Jonh Ingham says A tragic fireworks band - First album wonderful, B-sides of singles wonderful, second album had some brilliant songs, then yeeuuuchh. I blame the drugs - not you, the ones they were taking. The weird thing is, by making the same album several times over they're bigger than ever.

  11. TylerDurden says Jason -> funny you should go into the ladies liking WONDERWALL, I too learned that song in my teen years, but I catually liked them then, and I only learned it for a girlfriend, and played it after school in the parking lot for a few bystanders, mostly girls, I WILL NOT play that song at my fire pit these days though! And for the LOVE OF GOD, dislike slipknot?!? I will give you the obnoxious noise point, but Joey Jordison is a fantastic Drummer, and #3 is a wicked guitarist, but yes, I believe they are wasted efforts because overall, they could be used for better purposes! Corey's in stone sour, they're ~~~ O.K. at best. GROON -> mucho respecto for supporting the gwar, they are in a category all their own -> Hideously-scary-nightmare-inducing-Fallen-angels-from-hell-metal -> The co-workers here have called the looney-toons bus for me many times, but since I'm 18, they can't make me go! Charley R -> Do I interperet a bit of sarcasm? How do you mean I am a good friend? Because I agreed to learn songs that hurt my ears to teach him, or that I would burn his collection (or set it up so he would burn his own collection?) JOHNNY -> you're a funny dude! Uh, yeah -> it never hurts to put out the same album, what, 6 times? As a die hard fan of some things, not Oasis, I can understand buying every album that your favorite band produces, even if, like the Deftones, they only put out White Pony with a different cover and 1 extra song! -> What's that saying, uh, don't beat a dead horse more than once a day? something like that. Thanks all, this is the kind of responses I was looking for! surprised Z-HARVARD didn't show up for this one!

  12. TylerDurden says GROON -> I meant OVER 18, wish I was 18 again!

  13. Wade says yes, but i kinda liked one acoustic version of wondrewall
    Permalink posted 04/03/2008
  14. TylerDurden says WADE -> if you read the correspondance, it seems everyone as had a liking for wonderwall at one time, there are always exceptions to the rule -> I'll let it slide, because I am a sucker for LIVE recordings, and Acoustic recordings, now if it were Live & Acoustic, I probobly woulda had to clean my panties out!

  16. contrabandwidth says Jonh, doesn't Aerosmith currently employ that same framework for all their albums nowadays (same album making them bigger than ever)? Yes, Tyler (strange, I feel as though I'm talking to myself) Oasis is the worst band ever. I worked in a record store in 1995 and their second album came out (was it called wonderwall? Oh, I forget). Every comparison was to the Beatles, and try as I might I could not get past that annoying nasally whine of Noel Gallagher. I still have never heard anything in their music that even smacked reminiscent of The Beatles. Oh how I loathed them. Drugs seem to make a band much worse in the long run than they ever made them good. Unless it killed them.

  17. SamTheButcher says I agree with John - Great start, then they fell off, each album getting weaker until Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, and I've not found much reason to listen past that. I don't mind Liam's voice (don't even really mind Noel's, either), but you know whose voice I cannot for the life of me stand anymore, and, like yourself, question why/how I ever did like it? Billy Corgan. I listen to him now and just hear this incessant whine that sounds like a cat being squeezed to death.

  18. Lizziegreeneyes says I have never & will never see the "genius" behind Oasis... they bore me to tears really. I'd say break it to him gently-like ;) It's not that they remind me so much of The Beatles though... there are so many bands who take many a cue from the fab four... and quite a chunk of them do so in ways that thrill, impress or just plain move me. I am sure I could think of other bands that don't do it for me, but to be totally honest, Oasis are one right at the top of that list, so we'll stick with them. So go easy on the guy... with a band like Oasis, I am sure he will understand the phrase, you either love them or hate them - I've never seen an in-between. Sure I can listen to a song of theirs without automatically rockin the gag reflex, but it's most definitely a hate relationship that I have with the brothers Gallagher & the rest of their motley crue. How is it then that I love when bands that I do dig, cover the sods ?!? I guess it makes me laugh, at least I can trust Phish to cover Wonderwall admitting they think it to be one of the all time worst songs... heh ;)

  19. HelenMarie says Dang...sorry I missed this last week Joe! Was a bit busy with a decade change. ; ) Great comments! I personally don't ??mind?? 'em. Only a few bands/artists (and things in general...I'm not a hater) bring out the hate. And that's Creed, Nickleback, Hinder, Buckcherry...? People will pay to hear em on jukebox at my friends pub!? And they get play on the local radio. All in the same category of pick up a fucking thesaurus and think of some different lyrics! It's the only time I picture myself yelling "YOU SUCK!!!" at a concert or if I see one on the street.

  20. TylerDurden says Tyler -> I now give you my name behind the name -> I'm Joe, so now you don't have to feel as if you are talking to yourself. Sam da BUTCHER -> yeah, Mr. Corgan knows how to propperly annoy me, espescially when friends claim to love the Pumpkins and constantly blare the album GISH, I just wanna put them out of their ignorant misery. LIZZZZZZZZZZIIIEEEE -> wudup girl?? great to see you around! I will announce that I did let him down easy this weekend! After a 3 hour game of 'TEXAS HOLD 'EM' I told him I gave the cd's a listen and couldn't stand them. Then I punched him in the larynx and watched him aspsphixiate? suffocate to death -> just kidding, told him that I didn't know what I was thinking when I told him that I liked them, I was terribly mistaken, he gave me a hurt puppy look, than we were friends again! SUNNY -> seems I opened up a can for you -> Creed, amen! Nickleback, yes, HINDER, OOOHHHHH you got that one right! Buckcherry, I only heard one cathcy tune by them and thought I liked them until I seen a picture of the band, so -> I'll have to agree on all 4 -> but grudginly, I happen to know how to play like 5 Creed songs on guitar, maybe more, and for that I am ashamed, because I can't stand them. SUNNY -> I could actually see you buying a nose-bleed-section ticket to a Nickleback concert, just so you could work your way up to the front and yell out, "YOU SUCK, give me 100 Nickel's back for every minute of my life you ruined with your horrible crap music" -> and then throw a lit road flare at the stage "DOOOOSHBAG" -> if you plan it out right, I'll go along and hurl insults at Chad Fugly too!
