Wolfmother

Posted almost 6 years ago
this week, a friend told me about this band called Wolfmother. At first, the name was just too ridiculous for me, but i finally ended up picking up the cd. wow. good decision. in a nutshell, if Led Zepplin released their first cd in 2006, this is what it would sound like. the lead singer sounds quite a bit like robert plant, and is the only person i have ever heard with a range anywhere close to him. the rock segments are a bit harder at times and the band is altogether a little more indie feeling, but many of the songs and compositional features match Zepplin like nothing else. truly a good pick up for any fan of rock and roll.

  1. kp says Holy Moly! You're right! First the Strokes channeling Jim Morrison & now Wolfmother channeling the Zep. Take me back to 1969! Just hope WM has a second effort as great as Zep II.

  2. kp says P.S. There is even an echo of Jethro Tull in "Withcraft"

  3. david hyman says i've seen wolfmother a few times and to be honest, it's technicaly very good and the look and image is all well and good but.... there is something missing. it's called soul. and pain. they don't have it. they don't have the heart that i here in jack white's voice. in kurt cobain's voice. in robert plant's voice. not just the voices but the performances. a bit too polished. like a cover band of a great rock band. (which suprisingly enough is what australia is great at) -d

  4. kp says depends on whether you are looking for soul or simply sonic range. no pain is not necessarily no "gain". robert plant's voice was pretty unique & wolfmother provides a definite reminder. the only thing close i've heard in between is patrick monahan of Train on the cut "Train" on their first CD. unfortunately train went all sappy & stuff instead of pursuing serious rock.

  5. digworm says hyman - just think of them as a tribute band to an era

  7. Tyler says bah! preposterous. sure they have influences but they have elements in their music that i really haven't heard before. they are a great band and as i already told david, i think he is crazy. they are fantastic live(saw them at BFD).
