WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

What a kick in the nuts...

So, turns out I can't go to the roots show on the 7th of February. I'm gonna be on a school trip to Olympic Park, Washington, which is cool, but it's unfortunate that they fall on the same week. For all of you who have not seen the roots live, I highly recommend fixing that ASAP. They are one of the best live bands I have ever seen.In other news, TV on the Radio is doing 2 shows in San Francisco and OK Go and the Silver Sun Pickups are opening for Snow Patrol, so I will be hitting both of those shows for sure.Side note/rant of despair:Am I the only one who thought Babel was one of the worst movies ever made? The plot was terrible, contrived, and terribly improbable. What the hell is a japanese man doing big game hunting in the middle of Krezghsivnehgistan? How did he find his hole-in-the ground guide to begin with? Who thinks it's a good idea to take the kids you are babysitting to a different country without the parents knowing? Why wouldn't you just leave them with a friend? Why does that asian gal keep her vagina out 24-7? But, most importantly, how do people think this is a good movie?I swear, if this movie wins for best picture, I will have lost all faith in humanity. Does anybody agree, or can anyone tell me why it's a good movie?

  2. Kate says Wow, I actually want to see Babel more now that I read that entertaining little rant! You made it sound just about as appetizing as Crash. Don't forget what a load of crap the Oscars are, so if it does win Best Picture- who cares? Um, did Max just say he was "off to Sundance"?

  3. Tyler says Max- Really? Can't give me a reason? Well, have fun at Sundance. Let me know what I will be seeing 6 months from now. Let me know what TVOTR show you are going to and I'll be sure to catch you there. Kate- I too loved Crash. Babel tries to pull off of that idea, but it's far worse. It's the same director, so the production style is the same, but the main difference lies in the story. Crash had a rich, plausible, and well constructed story with wonderfully interwoven character plot lines, whereas Babel consists of a mute girl who REALLY needs to get laid, a couple "vacationing" in the middle of nowhere, and a mexican nanny who thinks it's a good idea to take the couple's kids to mexico illegally. The story is ridiculus and has more holes than a sieve. This film is lame and tugs at the "too deep for you" strings. It is so ridiculous that the big romance scene happens while blanchett is urinating in a metal pan, and yes, you hear the splashing. In summary, save your money, but if you must see it, actually think about it instead of just riding with the pretty production value.

  4. Kate says You rock. I think you should be a professional movie reviewer. One thing though, Crash was directed by Paul Haggis (which led my brother to call overly-dramatic and frustrating movies "totally Haggis") and Babel was directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

  5. lemontwist says Sorry to hear you can't see the roots. Never saw Babel, but I did just get around to watching Eternal Sunshine last week. Awesome movie. :)

  6. Jess Horrible says wow, uh... never seen that movie or heard anything about it, but now i'm going to have to. that's a lot of crazy stuff. i will probably hate it too, but whatever. and yes, you should be a professional movie reviewer, or movie maker perhaps. what's up with that? you are pre-forgiven for going to coachella, of course. i hope it turns out to be totally awesome.

  7. Tyler says Kate - Yes sorry, you are absolutely right. I had a mental slip. I meant to go on a tangential rant about his other film 21 Grams (i bad movie, cut up into 30 second intervals, loaded into a shotgun, and fired at the wall with the aim of being "artsy". don't even get me started about this one), and somehow swooped Crash in there with it. Thanks for keeping my facts straight. lemon - Believe it or not, I am still yet to see Eternal Sunshine. It is at the top of my "to do" list, but I keep forgetting to get around to it. Jess - Any movie is worth a try. Who knows, it may inspire you or something. Heck, I could just be completely nuts. As far as movie making goes, I've never been busier. I'll write you up a full report as soon as I can. And for coachella, thanks for signing my permission slip. Even if the sound totally sucks, at least I'll get some wicked hacking in. What else are festivals good for, if not a whole lot of hacky sack?
