WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

Artist:
Track: Driving Me Wild - (with Lily Allen)
(155)

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Troy Powers LIVES!

I've been on the low lately. Popping my head in every now and again. Came across this clip at hiphopdx.com today, so you know I had to share it with my people.

By the way, as some of you know, I'm headed out to Budapest in a couple weeks to catch a big music festival they have out there every summer. Lots of acts from around the world, unfortunately I'm only familiar with one or two. So, if you guys recognize any of the acts on this list and can recommend a couple that I should check out, I'd be much obliged.

Of the top, I know I'm going to be checking out Gentleman. He just makes great music. I'll probably check out Pink. Not that I'm a big fan, but I do know a few of her songs. I've heard good things about Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails, so that's probably gonna be one I catch. Other than that, it's just gonna be the luck of the draw. A couple other names I recognize are The Chemical Brother and Faithless. That's about it. So...hook a brova up, yo! Who's worth seeing?

(USA) Baba Yaga (RU-H) Babylon Circus (F) Cesaria Evora Chemical Brothers (UK) Chris Cornell (USA) Erik Truffaz Etienne Mbappé (Kamerun) Faithless (UK) Fanfare Ciocarlia "Queens & Kings" (RO) Ferus Mustafov (BL) Fun-Da-Mental (UK) Gentleman (D) Gogol Bordello (USA) Gus Gus (ICE) Hanoi Rocks (FIN) IAMX (UK) Juliette and the Licks (USA) Kaizers Orchestra (N) Killing Joke (UK) Laurent Garnier (F) Leningrad (RU) Locomotiv GT (H) MAP (F) Mando Diao (S) Manu Dibango (Kamerun) Mari Boine (N) Mike Stern (USA) Motion Trio (PL) Napalm Death (UK) Negative (FIN) Nine Inch Nails (USA) Nitzer Ebb (UK) Paradox Trio (USA) Pink (USA) Pleymo (F) Plump DJs (UK) Razorlight (UK) Sergent Garcia (F) Sidestepper (COL-UK) Sierra Maestra (CUB) Silicone Soul (UK) Sinéad O'Connor (IRL) Ska Cubano (UK) Skatalites (JAM) Skinny Puppy (CAN) Sportfreunde Stiller Sud Sound System (I) The Good The Bad And The Queen (UK) The Hives (S) The Killers (USA) Tinariwen Tool (USA) Värttinä (FIN) Within Temptation (NL) Full program here

BRING OUT YOUR DEAD!!!

Glad to hear you're not dead man... I have also been quiet myself lately, but here's my confirmation that I'm also not dead.

I am not a huge fan of Lily Allen, but anything with Common is A-okay with me... As for the bands... I've heard of a ton of them, but am really only familiar (aside from those already mentioned): Chris Cornell, former lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave; Sinead O'Connor: she has a shaved head (or used to) and sang that song "Nothing Compares To You." Oh, and she does have a song called "Troy," which I believe she wrote for you... The Good, The Bad & The Queen: I'd check these guys out. Damian Albarn (lead singer of Blur, creator of Gorillaz, etc, etc), guy is a musical genius, would be worth just for curiosity's sake. The Killers: Represent pretty much everything I hate about MTV. Tool: I love these guys, but unless you know their stuff, I'd stay away...

Chemical Brothers (UK)

Faithless (UK)

Juliette and the Licks (USA)

Napalm Death (UK)

Nitzer Ebb (UK)

You may know most of these Troy, but... Cesaria - see her she's spectacular !!!!

lol...and this would have been the perfect time to throw in my "Did you get that thing I sent you?" vid! :)

Glad you liked the stuff. I figured it would be right up your alley. Definitely more than a few gems in there.

Where the hell are you driving 16 hours to?

msquared: Did Tool make that Woo-Hoo song? A friend of mine has nothing but good things to say about Audioslave and Sound Garden. So is this Cornell guy one I should see? Sinead I've never really been into, but if she's written a song for me, I guess it would be rude if I didn't at least swing by and say hello. I'll def check out The Good, The Bad & The Queen, and try to avoid The Killers.

LizzieGreen-Green: Thanks for the recommendations. Now I won't just be wandering around aimlessly...unless I get my hands on some good absinthe. Cesaria makes the list of must sees!

I have one album of hers thanks to a colleague from France... fell instantly !!! I didn't bring up the US artists... figured you knew them :)

Absinthe... I know you can find the real deal in Hungary... my old college friend would go home to Budapest & imbibe a teensy bit... always promised to bring some back - cheeky monkey never did ;)

Glad to have you back in action - missed you !!!

Nitzer Ebb reunited?!? Why doesn't anyone tell me these things? :::glares around room:::

Definitely check out Faithless, Chemical Brothers, Killing Joke, and The Hives, and Gogol Bordello has gotten some rave reviews for their live show, so go do that too.

Man, everyone's going to Madrid, London, and Budapest, and I can't get to stinkin' TULSA for a show. Excuse me while I pout now.

Troy - Blur did that "Woo Hoo" song. That's the guy from The Good, The Bad and The Queen. But I agree with everything that msquared said. Tool is an amazing band. Definitely check them out. "!!!" is really good, as is SInead O'Connor, I think she rocks. Try to find the song "The Foggy Dew" which is by Sinead and The Chieftains. It's amazing. Maybe I will post a blog with the MP3 on it later, when I have access to my music drive. I have heard a few things by Skinny Puppy. I give them an "eh". Have fun!

LizzieGreen-Green: I'll be sure to have a couple shots in your honor. And believe it or not, I'm not even familiar with most of the American acts. I've heard the names before, but except for the names I mentioned, I don't know nothin' man! :(

Dale: More votes for Faithless and Chemical Brothers. Good deal. I've heard of Gogol Bordello. Probably around here somewhere. Who's in Tulsa?

msquared64 says:

oh no, Tool is not even close to that Woo Hoo song, but Blur did, one of Albarn's bands, but I seriously doubt the Good, the Bad & the Queen would bust that one out.

As for Cornell... I do like Soundgarden & Audioslave (every once in a while at least), but I've heard nothing about his solo stuff... might be worth stopping by though if nothing else is going on.

Wow, guys, I'm really starting to get excited about this now. And all of the acts you guys are recommending are main stage acts. There are still 3 other stages full of music yet to be discovered! This is gonna be alright! :)

mmcnamara: Yeah, hit me with that Sinead track. I'm willing to give her another shot. :)

I would love to see Juliette and the Licks. That would, be Juliette Lewis of _Natural Born Killers_ fame....

The 2 albums that I have are really good energetic straight up rock n roll.

Sinead O'Connor is a MUST see just to hear her killer voice live. I saw her back in '90 or '91 in Portland, OR & she put on the most amazing show. The Killers put on a great show as well. I saw them back in Oct. in San Francisco & they are quite the showman & sounded incredible. Don't let the fact that MTV played their vids to death keep you from seeing them live.

I have to agree w/Jameson that Juliette & the Licks would be worth seeing too cause they rock on their cd I've heard. I've heard the band !!! put on a phenomenal live show too w/their world electronica sound. Gus Gus I really like & apparently they put on quite a wild/fun live performance. They are dance oriented electronica from Iceland.

The Good, The Bad & The Queen has ex Clash Paul Simonon, Simon Tong(ex The Verve) & Tony Allen(ex Fela Kuti) as well as Damon Albarn(Gorillaz, Blur) so it would be worth it just to see Damon live since I'm a huge fan of all his bands but to see Paul Simonon would be icing on the cake! I've heard they do the Clash's "Guns of Brixton" live too.

The Hives should put on a rockin' good show too from what I've seen of vid clips. Chris Cornell has an amazing voice but I've not seen him live. Have a great time!

Gogol Bordello, "gypsy" influenced (eastern Europe) punkish....love The Hives, fast high energy rock n' roll with a sense of humour, Tinariwen the darlings of world music - real-life desert nomads who picked up rock instruments and learned to play...Razorlight are getting lots of buzz in the UK...and I would go see The Killers too - they have transformed themselves from retro new wave to Springsteenish middle America basic rock n' roll, very melodic

Chucky lives tooo! Good news. ;)

Alright, so it looks like msquared is being overruled on The Killers. Juliette and the Licks have a couple nods. Why the pass on NIN, Chuckster? I mean, even if the new album isn't all that, Trent's got quite a catalog as I understand.

Thanks for all the recs guys. I'll keep you all posted on who I manage to catch.

Common and Lili Taylor mix together like sugar and spice. If you're into good beats, I'd check out the Chemical Brothers. Chris Cornell has a great voice. Tool are great musicians- but will really pull you down if you are in a dark mood. (Yeah, I'm a chicken.)

Troy, you must, must, must see Juliette and the Licks. I'd kill to see them in concert. My only other advice would be to skip NIN. I know that everybody else is digging Year Zero, but - meh.

Have fun!! And, if you do see J&TL - take some pictures for me, would ya? :)

Sh*t Troy - there's nothing really bad on that line up list. If you end up just stumbling around in an absinthe haze, I don't think you'd have a bad time anywhere you ended up. I'd try to catch the folks to don't get to the States much. If you are in the mood to just dance yr butt off, stop by and see Sergent Garcia.

And, welcome back from the dead. How was it? Did you see the light and the tunnel? ;-)
