MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

An interesting (if slightly tabloid-ish) article at Yahoo news about one of hip-hop's brightest producers.  It kinda reads like a warning to aspiring artists out there.  It's crazy, I can vividly remember seeing this dude on Cribs flaunting his $10 million mansion and yacht.  Now he owes a half a mil in real estate taxes, hasn't been seen in public in ages, and hasn't had a hit in 3 years.

Kinda sad.  Despite his beef with my favorite producer, I like Scott's music.  I hope he gets his shit together.  Maybe he'll wake up in Philly and re-join the Roots.  I think they did their best stuff with Scott anyway.

I'llcheck the article in a second, but I don't know how many times I watch cribs and see someone showing off their cars and their McMansion, and I'm llike "whose giving this guy his financial advice?  Cuz I'd fire his ass."  I mean when you've had 1 hit and your investing in almost a million dollars in cars and jewelry?  Where's the logic in that?  Haven't they ever tried to sell a car, or a diamond?  You'd be lucky to get back 75% of it's value.

Yeah, but Scotty was no one hit wonder.  He's had a pretty big career.  According to the article, he's made $70 million.  It takes some extreme mis-management to blow that.

But yet it's possible. Evel Kinevel proved that.  He even said something along the lines of "Give me 10 million dollars, and Ill show you how to blow it."

Definitely running into the Danger Mouse dilema with a tired sound.  Sounds like he does have talent, he just has to find that place ad reinvent himself, and he probably could.  He's just over valued and hurting himself with his own ego.

Of course people who ar in this position, aren't usually savy on the biz front.  Say what you will about Master P (and I can't say much about his music), but the man is a great buissness man.  Shit even Vanilla Ice knew to get someone smarter than him to manage his money, and he's still loaded.  Too bad Hammer didn't follow his lead.

He's talented, yeah, but everytime I see his small white mug with those big sunglasses and even bigger ego, I just kind of chuckle.... he's not THAT talented.

Well talent in the world of charts is knowing what people want at the right time.  That's a talent that doen't have anything to do with creativity, it's more of a market savyness.  I admire someone for that, or having the vision to usher in a new sound, even if I don't particularly like their music.

Well, I definitely think the cat can reinvent himself.  He went from The Roots to "Lean Back."  He's got range.  There's been a lot said about his coke habit though.  I hope he's not letting it have an effect on his work ethic or creativity.

But, yeah, somebody should have been managing his money for him.  Shit, I'm poor, and even I know that. :)

For $100,000 a beat, he better be shitting them out in Diamond encrusted platinum eggs.

I would like to see a cribs episode like where are they now. I would say about 85% of the people you see on there appear to be one hit wonders, and they look as if they have already spent all their money ahead of time. I think it would be interesting to see how many of the artists still have the same homes

One of the funniest was Redman's.  I don't know if it was his house, but he was still in the hood,  He had to like jimmy the lock, to get in the door.  The house was small and beat up.

Can you imagine how long it takes a 12 million dollar house to move?  Affordable ones are sitting on the market.  Man that would suck.

I saw that Redman one.... one of the things he was most proud of was his porn collection.

Yeah, Redman had the best Cribs episode ever.

Cribs: Revisited.  Actually, that would be kinda cool.  Would love to Soulja Boy's episode 5 years from now.

Hey, ego can get away from any one of us.  I remember being about 19 and I was in this rap group called Nomad.  We did our first local show and got a really good reception.  Even ended up signing a few autographs afterwards.  Anywayz, the following day, I'm talking to this girl I know and I basicly wanted her to drop whatever she was doing at the time and meet a friend of mine.  And when she said she was too busy, I just barely caught myself before saying, "Do you know who I am?"  True story.  And I know what you're thinking.  "Troy?!!?  You?!!?  But, you're normally such a humble person!"  Amazing, I know.  So, I can imagine what a few million in the bank and a string of #1's can do to a person.

lol, the Soulja Boy glasses are so retarded.  I mean...HELLO...when you've got stuff written on your glasses, it kinda makes it harder to do things like...ohhhh, I dunno...SEE!

But, if he doesn't have a nice crib, SOMEBODY does off of his music.

agree with you that Storch can reinvent and make a comeback.  would be a sweet thing too.  the Redman cribs is like a cult classic or somethin, everybody saw that episode even if they haven't seen any other television in like 10 years!

i can't believe y'all hate on S.boy so much.  i mean c'mon.  the kid is so poor, he's wearing the Fat Boys' hand-me-downs from the 80's.  the 80's!!!  if drawing on his shades with White Out stolen from Kinko's hides the 20 years of scratches, it's O-K.

besides, SOMEthing needs to draw attention away from that McDonald's-sponsored Olympic Games jacket that's never gonna fit unless someone buys this kid a decent meal...

somebody made a gold yacht off Soulja's tunes, but it clearly ain't him!

(i kid, i kid... :)
