Let me preface this by saying I think Kanye's new album is great. Much better than 50's. But, I'm a little peeved that he messed up my favorite song. No, not Homecoming. Stronger.
See, the main reason I was in love with Stronger was the drums. Man, Kanye made those drums talk. I just love the pattern of the kick. Nice work, 'Ye. But, for some reason, he decided to change the kick pattern for the album version (assuming that the internet leak is truly the album version. I'm still busted from my Budapest excursion, so it'll be another month before I'll know for sure.)
I don't read sheet music. Never studied music. Don't know what a "measure" is, so it's gonna be hard for me to explain the difference. But, on the original version of Stronger, the kick drum didn't keep the same patter throughout. It had three different patterns that were all slightly different. So, if the patterns were A, B, and C, it was played A, B, C, A, A, B, C, A. I just loved it. Thought it was genius stuff. But, now the album version just goes A, A, A, A. What the fuck?!!? I've heard of dumbing down lyrics, but are we dumbing down beats now too?
I don't know if you can hear the difference over your PC speakers, but give it a shot.

For better or worse, Kanye always tweaks songs right up until the end. I remember hearing a leak of Late Registration and then realizing that he changed things for the actual album version.
I didn't get a chance to pick up the album today but I will definitely compare versions again as soon as I do.

i spent 20 minutes switching up between versions and realized what you meant. at first i thought you meant the drum pattern varied slightly at various parts of the song. but within a series of four measures (four hits per measure), i definitely see the ABCA... finally.

Your totally right, Troy. Sounds like he tweaked it from being less opening and ring-y to more of the kicking a cardboard box sound. That aside, according to Billboard Kanye is kicking Fiddys butt in sales so far.
