MOG MOG

BECAUSE THE WEB MOSTLY SUCKS

(242)

So, I finally got past "Ordinary People" on my mp3 player, and soon after in random play was another of my favorite love songs, "Drug Ballad" by Eminem. I just think The Marshall Mathers LP is a complete masterpiece. Easily Em's best album, and I love this song. Though I admit that I haven't partaken of any illegal substances in quite some time, I do like to get high when the time and situation permits. Unfortunately being a professional and a single father, going for days without sleep just partying and popping pills doesn't quite fit into my lifestyle the way it used to. And that's a terrible shame. But the drugs in these United States of America are shite anyway, so... Honestly, I don't see how dealers even make a living anymore. :)

Anywayz, to experience the genius of Eminem, you have but to listen to the first half of the first verse.

Back when Mark Walhberg was Marky Mark This is how we used to make the party start We used to mix Hen' with Bacardi Dark And when it, kicks in you can hardly talk And by the, sixth gin you're gonna probably crawl And you'll be, sick then and you'll probably barf And my pre-diction is you're gonna probably fall Either somewhere in the lobby or the hallway wall And everything's spinning You're beginin' to think women are swimming in pink linen again in the sink Then in a couple of minutes that bottle of Guinness is finished You are now allowed to officially slap bitches

You GOTTA love this guy!

Em's albums are like a triangle. Starting with the Slim Shady LP on the bottom right, moving upwards towards the pinnacle that is the Marshall Mathers LP, then back down to The Eminem Show. Encore is the flat-line... I like (and "like" is the strongest word I will use in this case) a couple songs off of Encore, but overall that album was such a disappointment....

I completely agree. Great analogy. And the thing is, Eminem hasn't gotten any less talented. He's just so far away from the guy he started out as. I think he's tried to be the guy who made "Stan" and "Lose Yourself" (both great songs) too much, and not enough of the guy who made "I Just Don't Give A Fuck."

That picture just about sums up my first few years of college :) Ahhh, and to think I wished my youth away at one point. I've never been a huge fan of Slim Shady, but I can't deny he's got skills.

You tell me, I was a huge fan of his up until this last album. Was happy with the D12 stuff, as well but then I saw that video and it was like the scene from the Crying Game. I hope he gets his shit together, and hits us with something good. I still feel he was trying to hard to please the MTV audience.

I dunno. I mean, historicly Eminem always leads off with a corny single for the MTV heads.

The Slim Shady LP - "My Name Is" The Marshall Mathers LP - "The Real Slim Shady" The Eminem Show - "Without Me" Encore - "Just Lose It"

That's part of his formula. We've come to accept it. I'm with you though. I hope he bounces back from this. With 50 sucking, and Detox taking forever and a day, Busta tanking, Eve not looking very promising...Aftermath is a sinking ship.

By the way, before The Slim Shady LP, and I think before Em signed with Dr. Dre, he released The Slim Shady EP which had a slightly different version of "My Name Is". The lyrics had to be changed for the LP because they anti-gay, and it turned out the artist he sampled for the beat was gay. Anybody have the original version? I had it years and years ago, but now it's impossible to come across.

Not me, had it at one point then loaned it to a friend who never gave it back. that with my leaders of the new school album as well as my tribe called quest VHS. Was not a happy camper about that. As for the MTV songs, I gotta agree but the ones you listed were in no way as cheesy rat as that last one he put out.

Awww, man! There is nothing worse than the "friend" who walks off with your shit. It's like, "Wow, did our friendship mean so little that you'd toss it for a couple CD's?" How does the saying go? If you loan a friend $5 and you never see him again, it was worth it. Something like that.

I was just looking at the track listing for Encore. There were only three songs I liked. "Like Toy Soldiers," "Spend Some Time," and "Love You More." Sad.

LOL A sweatshirt? Okay, I'm sorry, but a man doesn't get another man for his sweatshirt. That's borderline homo-erotic behavior. Unacceptable!

That's always been one of my favorite songs. Great beat and tongue-in-cheek lyrics--what more do you need?
