WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Sample Clearance (Inspired by Cody B, CrashPryor, and Rawkkiddo)

Posted over 2 years ago
Good Morning!

So, Sample Clearance is a game they used to play on a college radio station I tuned in to in Atlanta (Shout out to WRAS 88.5 Rhythm & Vibes Show at Georgia State). The DJ would play a song, and the listeners would have to call in and name the artist and the song that the original sample came from. Sometimes there would be bonus points if you knew the year.
So, this is how it's gonna go. Busta Rhymes' Woo-Hah is worth a total of 10 points.1) 3 cool points if you can name the original artist and song title.2) 2 cool points if you can name the year of the original recording.3) Another 5 cool points if you actually post the mp3.
200,000 points are reedemable for a weekend where Troy Powers personally visits your hometown to prove to everyone just how fuckin' cool you are. :)
I don't currently know the answer, but I'm gonna try to google it now.
TP
PS: Even if you don't know the sample, Woo Hah is a helluva way to get started in the morning!
PPS: The sample I'm looking for is the keys (kinda carnival sounding music) in the song. Turns out, this song contains two samples.
Score:watchbatteries: 2.5 (half points for wikipedia use)Rawkkiddo: 2.5 (same)Chucky: 15 (points for hat size)Me: 5 for finding the mp3

  1. watchbatteries says College radio with call-in games? What is that nonsense? I found the sample but I used Wikipedia. So it feels wrong to use it.

  2. TroyPowers says No shame. I had to do it too. I know I heard it before, but I'm no big music buff, so there's no way I would have just come up with it. I wonder if anybody knows it off the top though.

  3. watchbatteries says 'm not even going to pretend that I heard it before.

  4. TroyPowers says Well, I'm pretty sure I heard it in the context of "Hey, this is the song that Busta Rhymes sampled." I probably heard it on the Rhythm and Vibes Show. Wasn't just sitting around listening to records.

  5. watchbatteries says Ah. That kinda stuff happens. I really want to listen to the Smiths now.

  6. TroyPowers says The Smiths?

  7. watchbatteries says I've been listening to Modest Mouse all week, more-or-less, specifically the new album with Johnny Marr, from the Smiths, on guitar. It has absolutely nothing to do with this post. I tend to do that. And this

  9. watchbatteries says start the second half of a comment further down the page speaking of Busta, have you seen this?

  10. TroyPowers says Yeah, I was just talking about that with my mom. M-1 from Dead Prez gave the Stop Snitchin' argument a little more weight. I still don't agree though.

  11. watchbatteries says I-despite going to a high school (I only graduated last year, I'm a freshman in college) where I saw said shirts frequently and the Young Jeezy shirt was banned-can't really identify with the situation. From his "2005 Rap Up": "And the "Stop Snitchin" thing y'all, it ain't gon' work I told y'all I saw a seven year old with a "Stop snitchin" shirt And don't get me wrong homie cuz I ain't tryin' to be a preacher But I'm like "Man who snitched on you? Your kindergarten teacher?""

  12. watchbatteries says Also, who on Fox News actually knows who M-1 is?
    Permalink posted 04/27/2007
  13. TroyPowers says No clue. But at least he didn't sound as ignorant as Cam'ron. Yeah, the whole Stop Snitchin' thing has turned into a fad. It's repugnant (Troy's vocab word for the day).

  15. TroyPowers says Actually, nobody has answered yet. Watchbatteries is holding off since he got his answer from Wikipedia. Do you know it?

  16. Rawkkiddoh says Yes, "Space" by Galt MacDermot, and "8th Wonder" by Sugarhill Gang then again I cheated as well
    Permalink posted 04/27/2007
  17. TroyPowers says Boooooooo the cheaters! Well, watchbatteries gets the points because he cheated before you did. There's still 5 points up for grabs for anyone that posts the mp3.

  18. watchbatteries says Well, I'd expect M-1 to be a better choice for a news show than Cam. Maybe that's my backpack rap (yeah...) side saying something, but Cam just doesn't seem like someone you'd ring to be on a news show. Speaking of, where are Talib and Mos on this one? I'm not that big into hip-hop fads (I own a Commonwealth shirt (but that's hometown love) and Nike Skate shoes, but that's about it), but I have opinions on indie fads. Namely Chuck Taylors. They're not that "indie" anymore.

  19. colizzle says We have to turn this around, people...I propose a "Start Snitchin'" movement...tell on everyone...make stuff up...eventually you'll tell on the people that Cam and M-1 aren't telling on... I begin by snitchin' on Busta for talking WAY too much in class...

    Permalink posted 04/30/2007
  25. Cody B says Didn't know it off the top. I came late to the Galt party, finally caving in after years of hearing about him. His solo stuff has never, though it has samples galore really rocked me.
